Defense Plays Sloppy, Shepherd Homers In Loss To Bloomfield

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – The Lincoln University of Pennsylvania baseball program cut into the large deficit with a four-run fourth, but a nightmarish day in the field where nine errors allowed an equal amount of unearned runs to score turned a respectable showing into a rout during its 18-4 loss on Thursday afternoon.

What You Need to Know:

  • Score: Bloomfield 18 | Lincoln (PA) 4

  • Records: Lincoln-PA (2-12-1, 0-0 ECC) | Bloomfield (4-9, 0-0 CACC)

  • Winning Streak: Bloomfield (W5) | Lincoln (PA)'s Last Win: None Since At Least 2008

Lincoln (PA) Top Performers:

  • Josh Shepherd (Bowie, Md./Bowie) gave the offense a shot in the arm when he sent a low-middle fastball hurtling over the chain link fence for a two-RBI blast, his first career home run in his 38th game at Lincoln.

  • Out of the seven student-athletes who had base hits, only Jaden Greenidge (Richmond, Va./Monacan) collected multiple hits with a pair of singles as well as picking up an RBI, a walk, and scoring a run. He also closed out the contest with a full frame's worth of scoreless pitching where he struck out a trio of Bears.

  • Drew Darby (Union, N.J./Union) crushed a ball into the right-center field gap and raced around the pillows for an RBI-triple while Wesley Hogan (Washington, D.C./The Maret School) built off his strong Wednesday performance with a two-bagger.

  • Alex Jones (Bear, Del./Appoquinimink) reached base safely thrice, snagging a double and drawing two walks.

  • Conner Jones (Chesapeake, Va./Grassfield) got five outs through the middle section of the ballgame, one via strikeout.

Notes:

  • The Lions defense recorded an unsightly nine miscues, the most errors in a single game since logging the same amount in an 11-2 loss at Virginia State on March 2, 2013.

Next:

  • The Orange and Blue clad home nine will welcome the newly named Alliance Warriors, formerly Nyack College, for a noon and 2:30 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.
