WILIMINGTON, DE (December 6, 2023)- The Lincoln University Lions men's basketball team took a tough 83-76 road loss to the Lightning of Goldey-Beacom College on Wednesday evening.

FIRST HALF
- Entering the contest with a chance to tied the series record against the Lightning, the Lions had high hopes of getting off to a strong start.
- Goldey-Beacom had other plans, capitalizing off of several home court advantage opportunities.
- Janaie Coates-Sinues (Newark, N.J./University) put LU on the board with a layup, after GBC went on a 9-0 run.
- Just as Lincoln began to find their groove, the Lightning went on another 9-0 run.
- LU did not say down for long, kicking their game into high gear.
- Answering back with much needed baskets and closing the scoring gap, LU got within 4 points of tying the game.
- As the clock ran down for first 20:00 of regulation, the back and forth battle continued.
- At the end of the 1st half, LU trailed, 36-25, to the GBC Lightning.
SECOND HALF
- The Lions battled to gain momentum in the 2nd half, moving the scoring deficit to a single digit.
- Outscoring the Lightning, 51-47, in the half, Lincoln worked to control the matchup.
- LU continued to play hard until the final buzzer sounded to end regulation.
- The clock became the Lions adversary, as the final score ruled in favor of the Goldey-Beacom Lightning, 83-76
LION LEADERS
- Manny Toha (Newark, N.J./Marist) led the Lions in scoring with 20 points.
- Also scoring in double digits were Bakir Cleveland (Newark, N.J./University) (18 points), Freddie Young, Jr. (Ewing, N.J./Trenton Catholic) (10 points), Ahmir Moore (Harlem, NY/St. Raymond High School For Boys) (10 points) and Ethan Garita (Trenton, N.J./Princeton Day School) (10 points).
- Cleveland also controlled LU's boards with 7 rebounds, while Janaie Coates-Sinues (Newark, N.J./University) secured 3 steals.
- Chase Jackson (Teaneck, NJ/Paramus Catholic) stepped in with 4 assists for Lincoln.
UP NEXT
The Lions will travel to Orangeburg, SC to take on the Panthers of Claflin University to begin the Lions CIAA conference play on Monday, December 11. Tip-off is set for 7:30 pm at Jonas T. Kennedy Health and Wellness Center (
Tullis Arena).
