LU Men’s Basketball Opens Season At PSAC/CIAA Challenge

ELIZABETH CITY, NC (November 9, 2023) - The Lincoln University men's basketball team, under the leadership of Head Coach Jason Armstrong, have traveled to Elizabeth City, NC To compete in the PSAC/CIAA Challenge hosted by Elizabeth City State University on November 10-11, 2023. The Lions will face the Warriors of East Stroudsburg University on Friday, November 10 for a 7pm matchup. On Saturday November 11, LU will take on the Golden Bears Kutztown University at 3pm.

SERIES HISTORY
  • The LU Lions are 0-1 in the series against the ESU Warriors.
  • In their last matchup on November 14, 2014, the Lions took an 92-72 home loss to the Warriors.
  •  In the matchup against the KU Golden Bears, the Lions are 3-3, in the series after a 93-86 home victory on November 12, 2022.
SELF-SCOUT
  • The Lions are opening their 2023-24 season on the road at the PSAC/CIAA Challenge. These contests will set the tone for the season as LU begins their journey for the CIAA Championship.
  • Lincoln University was picked to finish 7th overall in the CIAA among the 13-member institutions.
  • During the 2022-23 season, Coach Armstrong not only took Lincoln to the CIAA Championship game, the first time in program history, but the team rounded out the year with a 17-15 overall record. 8-8 in the conference.
  • The Lions are returning 10 players from last season's squad.
  • Reggie Hudson (Bronx, N.Y./St. Raymond's) represents the Lincoln Lions on the All-CIAA Men's Basketball Preseason Backcourt. Hudson rounded out the 2022-23 season 4th in the CIAA in assists, averaging 3.2 per game and tied for 1st in the conference with 1.8 steals per game.
  • Alongside leading the Lions in assists and steals, Hudson averaged 11.2 points per contest with a 43.1 field goal percentage. A true Lincoln leader, Hudson was 42.1% from behind the arc, 65.9% from the free throw line, and averaged 3.3 rebounds per game.
SCOUTING THE EAST STROUDSBURG WARRIORS
  • East Stroudsburg will also be opening their season at the PSAC/CIAA Challenge this weekend.
  • In their respective conference (PSAC), ESU was predicted to finish 1st out of 9-member institutions in the Eastern Division.
  • ESU returns 11 players from last year's squad that finished 23-9 overall and 15-7 against PSAC opponents.
  • The Warriors return two-time All-PSAC East selection Lakeem McAliley, as the team's leading scorer (16.6 ppg), rebounder (5.8 rpg), along with pacing ESU in steals (1.8 spg), blocks (0.9 blocks per game). McAliley also shoots at an efficient rate, knocking down 58.8 percent of his field goal attempts, 40.4 percent of his 3-point attempts and 83.7 percent of his free throw attempts.
  • Other returning starters from last year's squad include Justin Paz (9.5 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 1.1 spg, 3.5 apg) Jaelen McGlone (11.0 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 1.9 apg, 1.3 spg).
SCOUTING THE KUTZTOWN GOLDEN BEARS
  • Kutztown, like the other teams in the PSAC/CIAA Challenge, will be opening their season this weekend.
  • In their respective conference (PSAC), KU was predicted to finish 7th out of 9-member institutions in the Eastern Division.
  • The Golden Bears return five players from last year's squad that finished 11-17 overall and 10-12 against PSAC opponents.
  • Returners from last season include Jalen Bryant, Kameron Roberts, Will Meeker, Ryan Glassmacher and Brendan Boyle.
