LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA (November 2, 2023)- The Lincoln University Lions volleyball team fought to control the matchup against the Virginia Union University Panthers on Thursday evening. The Senior Night contest marked the Lions last home game of the season. Unfortunately, LU took a 3-0 loss to the VUU Panthers.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Both teams started the contest early displaying their offensive and defensive skills.
• The Lions went on a 4-0 run in the set, tying the score 5 times.
• Several LU errors allowed for VUU to pull away, taking an extended lead.
• Although just a few plays behind, Lincoln was not able to take set 1, giving VUU a 25-17 win.
• Set 2 opened with senior night promise as the Lions held as much as a 7-point lead at the first called timeout.
• The set continued with intense back-and-forth action, as LU battled for dominance.
• Mimicking set 1, several Lion errors allowed the Panthers space to take the lead and a 25-20 set 2 win.
• Set 3 mirrored set 1, as Lincoln fought hard to bounce back with a victory.
• Despite capitalizing off of numerous Panther errors, offensively, the Lions could not take charge of set 3, falling 25-18 and taking the overall loss.
• Although the final score was not in favor of Lincoln, the team's ability to battle for control of the matchup during their last home game of the season shows true dedication.  

LION LEADERS

• Erica Taylor (Romulus, MI/Romulus Summit Academy) was evenly matched with VUU, leading the contest with 10 kills.  
• Stepping in for the Lions with 15 assists and 8 digs was Jaida Lumpkin (Middletown, Del./Middletown).
• Mariah Webster (Detroit, Mich./Cass Tech/) led LU with 9 digs, while Erinn Taylor (Romulus, MI/Romulus Summit Academy) jumped up to control the game with 2 blocks for Lincoln in their matchup with VUU.

 
UP NEXT
The Lions will travel to Bowie, MD to take on the Bulldogs of Bowie State University on Monday, November 6. The teams will complete a postponed match from October 26 that was paused during the 5^th set. At the completion to that makeup match, the Lions and Bulldogs will faceoff for their regularly schedule contest. The first serve is set for 6pm.
