Women’s Basketball Defeats Goldey-Beacom, 67-56

WILMINGTON, DE (November 15, 2023)- The Lincoln University women's basketball team defeated the Lightning of Goldey-Beacom College, 67-56, in a road contest on Wednesday evening. The victory is the first win for the Lions in the series matchup.

FIRST HALF
  • From the opening tip-off, the Lions set the tone getting on the board early with a jumper by Serena Mosley (Athens, Ga./Chamblee Charter).
  • LU was evenly matched with Goldey-Beacom for most of the contest.
  • The Lightning took an early lead with a 3-pointer, but Anyssa Fields (Long Branch, N.J./Long Branch) quickly responded for the Lions with a 3-pointer of her own.
  • Despite GBC pulling ahead to control the game, Lincoln managed to tie the score 14-all.
  • In the final seconds of the 1st quarter, Goldey-Beacom secured a basket to take a 17-15 1st quarter lead.
  • The 2nd quarter saw a seesaw battle, with both teams trading baskets and defensive stops, as both teams scored 17 points in the quarter.
  • The Lions managed to close the gap, tying the score, 32-32, with under a minute left in the half.
  • Unfortunately, GBC had a final second layup to take a 34-32 halftime lead over Lincoln.

SECOND HALF
  • The 3rd quarter undoubtedly belonged to Lincoln as they outscored the home team 20-7.
  • Going on a 14-0 run, the quarter showcased the Lions dominance as they unleashed a relentless offensive attack.
  • Ending the quarter with a score of 52-41, LU built a significant lead over GBC.
  • In the 4th quarter, the Lightning recognized the urgency and intensified their efforts to jump ahead to take the win.
  • As the clock ran down, the Lions maintained their composure, making crucial free throws and showcasing disciplined defense.
  • LU's composure paid off as they secured the win, defeating Goldey-Beacom, 67-56.

LION LEADERS
  • Evenly matched with 9 points each and leading the Lions in scoring were Jaleesa Lanier (Easton, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) and Maya Madison Walker (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin).
  • Anyssa Fields (Long Branch, N.J./Long Branch) controlled the boards for Lincoln with 9 rebounds in addition to her 8 points.
  • Springing to action and leading LU with 4 steals and 4 assists was Ciani Montgomery (Philadelphia, Pa./West Catholic Prep).
 
UP NEXT
The Lions will travel to California, PA to take on the Vulcans of California University of PA on Monday November 20. The matchup will tipoff at 5:30pm at the Convocation Center.
