ETTRICK, VA (November 11, 2023)- The Lincoln University women's basketball team opened up their 2023-24 season on the road at the Atlantic Region Challenge, hosted by Virginia State University on November 11-12. On day 1, the Lions faced the Senators of
Davis & Elkins College, where LU was victorious, 66-45, for their first win of the season.

FIRST HALF
- An early foul on the Lions, sent the Senators to the line to take a shot, followed by a jumper, putting LU behind in the opening minutes.
- Anyssa Fields (Long Branch, N.J./Long Branch) got the game started for Lincoln with a shot from behind the arc to tie the game 3-all, never looking back!
- The Lions went on a 6-0 run to extend their lead as the 1st quarter progressed.
- Continuing to dominate the court, LU held a 16-10 lead at the end of the first quarter.
- Not wasting any time, Akiai Eduoard (Winter Haven, FL) put up a 3-pointer, seconds into the 2nd quarter.
- Despite Davis & Elkins many attempts to close the scoring gap, the Lions kept their distance, holding strong to their lead.
- The quarter ended how it begin, with a shot from behind the arc by Eduoard.
- Entering the locker room at halftime, LU held a 31-23 lead over the D&E Senators.
SECOND HALF
- Staying in the same groove from the first half, Lincoln maintained their dominance in the 3rd quarter.
- Although D&E managed to get within 1 point of tying the score, Jaleesa Lanier (Easton, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) showed her range with a 3-point shot to give the Lions an extra push.
- At the end of the 3rd quarter, LU held a 43-37 lead.
- The Lions showcased their offensive and defensive skills in the 4th quarter, holding the Senators to 8 points.
- LU went on several runs in the quarter, capitalizing off of their opponents' turnovers.
- Taking the largest lead of the matchup (21 points), Lincoln ended the contest with a 66-45 victory over the Davis & Elkins Senators.
LION LEADERS
- LU's scoring and boards were led by Anyssa Fields (Long Branch, N.J./Long Branch) with 13 points and 8 rebounds.
- Also scoring in the double digits were Ciani Montgomery (Philadelphia, Pa./West Catholic Prep) (11), Akiai Eduoard (Winter Haven, FL) (11) and Jaleesa Lanier (Easton, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) (10).
- Evenly matched with Fields on Lion rebounds was Taylor Brown (Waldorf, Md./Westlake) with 8.
- Springing to action and leading Lincoln with 5 steals and 4 assists was Jaleesa Lanier (Easton, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic).
UP NEXT
The Lions will round out the Atlantic Region Challenge for a Day 2 matchup against the Rams of Shepherd University on November 12. The matchup will tipoff at 3pm at the VSU Multipurpose Center in Ettrick, VA.
