Box Score 3 BOWIE, Md. – The Lincoln University volleyball team went 1-2 in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association round-up this weekend hosted by Bowie State University.
MATCH ONE: Fayetteville State 3, Lincoln 1 (19-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-18)
After winning the first set, the Lions dropped three straight to open the round-up with a loss in its lone match Saturday.
Junior
Erica Taylor (Romulus, MI/Romulus Summit Academy) led the team with nine kills, while sophomore
Haley Loper (Middletown, Del./St. Georges Technical) added seven kills in the loss. Freshman
Janaa Smith (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) finished with a team-high 14 assists, and sophomore
Jaida Lumpkin (Middletown, Del./Middletown) added 10.
Sophomore
Mariah Webster (Detroit, Mich./Cass Tech/) and Loper each finished with 11 digs in the loss.
MATCH TWO: Claflin 3, Lincoln 0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-10)
With the first two sets being closely contested, Lincoln managed 10 points in the final set.
Loper and Smith combined for 13 kills with seven and six, respectively, to pace the Lincoln offense. Lumpkin orchestrated the offense with 15 of the team's 22 assists.
Erica Taylor (Romulus, MI/Romulus Summit Academy) led the team with 12 digs.
MATCH THREE: Lincoln 3, Livingstone 0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-21)
Lincoln completed its stay in the round-up with a straight-set victory over Livingstone. It marked the first time in the series history that the Lions have won back-to-back matches against the Blue Bears.
Loper finished the match with 11 kills on 21 attempts and just three errors. Smith and
Erica Taylor (Romulus, MI/Romulus Summit Academy) added eight kills each for the Lions.
Lumpkin tabulated season highs with 17 assists, five service aces, and eight digs. Webster also recorded a season-high, finishing with 17 digs.
Lincoln returns to the court 7 p.m. Tuesday, traveling to Cheyney.
