SERIES HISTORY
This game marks just the second meeting between the two teams. Delaware State claimed the only meeting, 58-12, in 2019.
Sept. 14, 2019 - Delaware State 58, Lincoln 12
THE LAST TIME OUT
Shoye Sampson (Richmond, Va./John Marshall) scored two touchdowns, providing Lincoln University with their only points of the 2019 game. Delaware State tallied 28 first-quarter points and opened up a 41-0 lead before the Lions got on the board.
Receiver
Dah'mear Triplett (Elkton, Md./Elkton) led Lincoln with eight catches for 77 yards.
WELCOME BACK
Junior receiver Dah'Mear Triplett is back in the Orange and Blue as he returned to Lincoln after two years. He led the team with 42 receptions for 631 yards and seven touchdowns en route to being named to second team All-CIAA, while earning a spot on the CIAA All-Rookie Team.
SUPER SEVEN
It's been seven years, but six seasons, since the Lincoln University football team opened the season with a win and posted a road victory. The Lions opened the 2015 season with a 29-22 victory over rival Cheyney and then took to the road the following week for the 28-17 win over North Carolina Wesleyan.
NEW LOOK OFFENSE
With
Tom Manley taking over the offensive coordinator duties, the Lincoln University offense will have a completely different look from the unit that finished last in NCAA Division II with 6.1 points per game.
Manley's offense will feature a lot of RPOs (run/pass options) and will be guided by sophomore quarterback
Andrew Banks (Atlanta, Ga./Mays). In seven games last season, Banks was 60-of-121 for 605 yards.
DIRTY BLUE
Lincoln returns the lion's share of a productive defensive unit, led by defensive backs
Rontay Dunbar (Brooklyn, N.Y./Freedom),
Kentrell Pierce (Calumet City, Ill./Harold Richards) and
Eric Best (Burlington, N.J./Burlington). The defensive backfield got a huge boost with the transfer of
Kai Gray (Neward, N.J./Saint Peters Prep), a former Rutgers and Sam Houston State defensive back. Gray, who is showing up on some preliminary draft boards, could be a game-changing factor for the Lions.
