RALEIGH, NC – The Lincoln University volleyball team dropped its Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association opener to Shaw in straight sets (25-14, 25-22, 25-14) Thursday inside Spaulding Gymnasium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lincoln didn't have single set with a negative hitting percentage, hitting a match-high .250 with nine kills, four errors on 20 attempts in the second set.
- Shaw seized control of the first set with a 14-1 run, including a spurt of 10 unanswered.
- The Lions had an early lead on Shaw, and led 19-15, before the Bears scored 10 of the final 13 points.
- In the third set, Shaw took control of the match in the middle of the set with a 10-1 run to take the 18-10 lead.
- Freshman Janaa Smith (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) led the team with six kills. She added six assists, three digs and two service aces.
- Sophomore Jaida Lumpkin (Middletown, Del./Middletown) had a team-high seven assists with six digs, while sophomore Mariah Webster (Detroit, Mich./Cass Tech/) added a team-high seven digs.
