Two Lincoln University student-athletes earned preseason All-Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association honors, the conference announced today (Wednesday, July 20, 2022).
Sophomore cornerback
Rontay Dunbar (Brooklyn, N.Y./Freedom) and sophomore
Achille Laudet (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater) were two of the 26-member preseason football team.
Laudet, the returning Special Teams Player of the Year and an AFCA All-American, led the CIAA in punting. He was 11th nationally, averaging 42.2 yards per kick. His 10 punts over 50 yards are almost twice as many as any other punter in the conference.
Dunbar, who was a second-team honoree last season, proved to be a shutdown corner for the Lions. He leads the CIAA, and is tenth nationally, in passes defended with12 pass breakups and three interceptions.
In a vote of the conference coaches, Lincoln was picked to finish last in the North Division with 30 points, including one first-place vote. Bowie State (134 points) was predicted to win the North, followed by Virginia Union (111), Chowan (88), Virginia State (84), Elizabeth City State (58), and Lincoln.
In the South, Fayetteville State was the leading point-getter with 132, followed by Shaw (103), Winston-Salem State (73), Johnson C. Smith (53), Livingstone (30), and St. Augustine's (30).
Lincoln opens the season 4 p.m. September 4 against FCS opponent Delaware State.
