Rasheed goes yard twice as SB connects on four HRs

WILMINGTON, DE – The Lincoln University softball connected on four home runs Wednesday in their non-conference doubleheader with Goldey-Beacom at the Jackson Athletic Complex.

GAME ONE: GOLDEY-BEACOM 12, LINCOLN 4
The Lightning took advantage of four Lincoln errors to score nine unearned runs in the 12-4 loss.

Lincoln took the lead in the bottom of the first as freshman Tia Brown (Newark, N.Y./Newark) smacked a two-out double to race home freshman Irlynn Richardson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills).

Goldey-Beacom scored seven runs, all unearned, in the third inning as the Lions committed a pair of errors in the frame.

Freshman MacKienzee Rasheed (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills) led the fourth inning off with a single, stole second, and scored as freshman Jarae Turner doubled her home. After GBC added a pair of runs in the bottom half of the fourth, Lincoln got those runs back in the sixth inning when Rasheed drilled her first career home run – a two-run shot, scoring Richardson – who opened the inning with a single.

A couple of errors in the bottom of the sixth enabled GBC to wrap up the game with three innings.

Rasheed finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored, a home run, and two RBI, while Richardson went 1-for-2 with a run scored, a walk, and two stolen bases.

Brown, 3-7, allowed seven unearned runs on six hits in three innings of work.

GAME TWO: GOLDEY-BEACOM 18, LINCOLN 10
Lincoln crushed three home runs in the nightcap, scored in every inning, but ultimately seven errors enabled the Lightning to secure the sweep.

The Lions took the lead in the top of the first inning as the first four batters reached with Brown singling home Richardson. However, the Lions left bases loaded with a pop-up and a pair of strikeouts.
GBC claimed the advantage with four runs in the bottom of the first.

After Richardson reached on a two-out walk and stole second, Rasheed doubled her home. A bout of wildness allowed Lincoln to put another run in the third inning. Brown walked, advanced to second and third on wild pitches, and scored on an "error" as Townsend walked. A walk to freshman Kevyn Jones (Baltimore, Md./Paul Laurence Dunbar) and a single by freshman Cate Liskey (Richland, Pa./Eastern Lebanon ) had the bases loaded with no outs. The threat came to an end with a double play and strikeout.

A nine-run third gave the Lightning the 14-3 lead, but the Lions wouldn't go down without a fight.

Rasheed hit her second home run of the day with one out in the fourth. Freshman Jarae Turner followed with a double and scored on junior Amaya Townsend's (Port Jervis, N.Y./Port Jervis) two-run home run.

Lincoln continued to offensive outburst in the fifth as Liskey opened the inning with a double and moved to third on a single by freshman Simone Hanner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills). Liskey stole home, and then Davis trotted home as freshman Jasmine Solis (Fontana, Calif./Summit) connected on her first career home run. Turner kept the inning alive with a two-out single, moved to second on a wild pitch, and scored on a single by freshman Sydney Davis (Harrisburg, Pa./Sci-Tech High School).

GBC scored three unearned runs in the fifth to seal the game.

Rasheed finished the game 3-for-4 with a double, home run, run scored and two RBI, while Turner was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. It was the sixth multi-hit game for both players. Richardson walked three times, stole a base, and scored twice.

Brown, 3-8, allowed nine runs – eight earned – on seven hits in two innings.

Lincoln returns to action noon Sunday in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association doubleheader at Bowie State.
