SHEPHERDTOWN, WV – The Lincoln University baseball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader (Saturday, Feb. 26) to Shepherd University.
GAME ONE: SHEPHERD 17, LINCOLN 0
Shepherd scored in five of its six plate appearance in cruising to the 17-0 lead.
Senior Carvonte Williams registered Lincoln's lone hit, a leadoff double in the third inning. He was the Lions' only base runner on the day.
Sophomore
Nick Spurlock (Sugar Land, Texas/Kempner), 0-3, surrendered seven runs, six earned, on seven hits with two strikeouts and three walks.
GAME TWO: SHEPHERD 4, LINCOLN 0
Shepherd did the majority of its damage in the third inning as the Rams started the inning with a walk and back-to-back doubles to take the 2-0 lead and chase starter
Hasan Aquil (Washington, D.C./Banneker). They added a third run on a sacrifice fly.
Lincoln managed a pair of hits – a
Jalen Godette (Queens Village, N.Y./Queens Prep Academy) single in the third and a Williams double in the fourth.
Sophomore
Josiah Lara (Plant City Fla./Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy) was excellent in relief, yielding just two hits over three innings with one strikeout and a walk. Aquil, 0-1, was hung with the loss – allowing three earned runs on two hits with two strikeouts and a pair of walks over two innings.
