Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

MBB drops crucial CIAA North contest

The Lincoln University men's basketball suffered a critical loss in the race for the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's North Division as the Lions fell to Virginia Union, 79-71, Saturday inside Manuel Rivero Gymnasium.

Lincoln now trails the Panthers by essentially two games as VUU holds a one-game lead and the tiebreaker by virtue of the season sweep of the Lions.

Virginia Union took control of the game with a 12-0 run early in the second half to take a 14-point lead. The 12-0 spurt was a part of a 30-9 run that turned Lincoln's seven-point lead into a 14-point deficit.

However, the Lions showed they weren't going to go away.

A three-point play by freshman Janaie Coates-Sinues (Newark, N.J./University) and a three-pointer from junior Korey Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y./LaSalle Academy) capped a 13-3 run by the Lions, and Lincoln trailed by just six. But, back-to-back dunks from the Panthers stemmed the momentum.

Junior Zahrion Blue (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) finished with 22 points, five rebounds, and two assists to lead the Lions, while junior Alex Nunnally (Washington, D.C./Cesar Chavez Parkside) added 10 points and five rebounds. Freshman Reggie Hudson (Bronx, N.Y./St. Raymond's) dished out a team-high eight assists with nine points and four rebounds.

Lincoln (16-9 overall, 9-5 CIAA, 6-3 North) travels to Shaw 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
