Box Score LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The Lincoln University volleyball team opened the 2021 season with a straight-set loss to Georgian Court (25-17, 25-13, 25-23) in non-conference action Wednesday.
Lincoln falls to 0-1 on the season, while Georgian Court improves to 4-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Georgian Court scored eight of the final 11 points in the opening set to claim the win, 25-17. GCU recorded a .450 hitting percentage, while Lincoln hit just .133.
- Lincoln allowed eight of the first 11 points in the second set to lead to a timeout. However, the Lions would fall behind by as much as nine in falling in the second set, 25-13.
- Freshman Jaida Lumpkin (Middletown, Del./Middletown) (Middletown, Del./Middletown) served six consecutive points in the third set, turning a one-point deficit into a five-point lead (10-5). Georgian Court was able to settle in to seal the match victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Freshman Erica Taylor (Romulus, MI/Romulus Summit Academy) (Romulus, Mich./Summitt Academy) led the team with six kills on 11 attempts with three errors for a hitting percentage of .273.
- Junior setter Tatyana Charles (Easton, Pa./Eastern Area) (Easton, Pa./Eastern Area) finished with a team-high six assists while leading the team with eight digs.
- Freshman Mariah Webster (Detroit, Mich. ) (Detroit, Mich./Cass Tech) added four digs for Lincoln.
- Lumpkin recorded three service aces and freshman Haley Loper (Middletown, Del./St. Georges Technical) (Middletown, Del./St. Georges Academy) added a pair of aces for the Lions.
