Zahrion Blue's (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) jumper with 1.9 seconds left capped a rally that saw the Lincoln University men's basketball team erase a double digit second half deficit to defeat Saint Augustine's University 69-67 Wednesday night at Manuel Rivero Hall.
The Lions improve to 8-17 overall and 4-8 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association games.  The Falcons fall to 8-15 overall, 3-10 in league play. This is the Lions third come-from-behind win since conference play began as the Lions rallied to defeat both Virginia Union and Claflin back in January.
Blue led all scorers with 21 points and recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 10 rebounds.Â
Deaquan Williams (Camden, N.J./Camden) continues to produce double-doubles, notching his 15
th of the season with 12 points and 15 rebounds.
The Falcons led by as many as 15 in the second half and still held a 14-point lead at 55-41 with 11:54 remaining when the Lions began their comeback.Â
Deonta Dunlap (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill Academy) hit two three-point baskets as part of a 7-2 run that cut the falcons' lead to single digits, 57-48 with 10:21 left. Saint Augustine's pushed the lead back up to ten at 61-51 at the 8:23 mark before the Lincoln rally restarted
A layup by
Keynante Williams (Fredericksburg, Va./Rock Creek Christian Academy) and free throws from
Markus Stevenson (Voorhees, N.j./Hillcrest Prep (Ariz.) (Angelina College)) and Williams pulled Lincoln within four at 51-57. The Falcons added a free throw in each of their next two possessions to go back up by six, 63-57 before
Deaquan Williams (Camden, N.J./Camden) sank 3-of-4 shots from the chastity stripe and Blue added a basket to make the score 63-62 with 4:06 remaining.
The Falcons lead oscillated between one and three points until
Deaquan Williams (Camden, N.J./Camden) grabbed a miss from Stevenson (his 15
th rebound of the night), put up a reverse layup that went in and was fouled with 46 second left. Williams converted the free throw tying the game at 67-67. The Lions got a huge defensive stop with 15.7 seconds left and inbounded the ball from the Falcons' base line. Blue took the inbounds, brought the ball up waited for a few seconds to tick off dribbled in and launched a perfect 15-foot jumper from the left side that was nothing but net giving the Lions their first lead since midway through the first quarter, 69-67 with 1.9 seconds left. The Falcons got off a half court attempt which was partially blocked by Stevenson and fell way short as time expired.
Karaan Clemonts led the Falcons with 13 points while Geordan Walker added 12. Jalen Gaddy chipped in ten. Gary Jefferson had a team-high seven rebounds and three assists to go along with his eight points.
Lincoln shot just 23.1% (6-26) in the first half as the Falcons produced a 37-26 lead at the break. The Lions improved in the second half, making 14 of 34 shots (41.2%), outscoring the Falcons 43-30 in the half. Lincoln doubled up the Falcons from the free throw line making 24 of 31 (77.4%) to 12 of 18 (66.7%) by SAU. This advantage offset the 11 three-point field goals made by the Falcons (Lincoln made just five). The Lions also had a 46-36 rebounding edge.
The Lions will close out the remainder of their regular season on the road, starting with a game at Virginia State University on February 13. Tipoff is 7:30 p.m. in Ettrick, Virginia.
