For the first time in program history, the Lincoln University women's basketball team is ranked in
Division 2 Sports Information Director's Association (D2SIDA) National Media Poll , coming in at number 18 in the poll released on February 4, 2020. The team is also receiving votes in the
Women's Basketball Coaches Association Division II Top 25 poll.
The Lions currently hold the best record in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) at 21-3 overall following Monday night's win over Winston-Salem State. Lincoln sports a 10-1 record in conference games and holds a perfect 5-0 record in games against North Division opponents.
Two of those division wins came against national and region ranked teams. The Lions defeated then #5 Virginia Union 76-46 back on January 15, 2020 and defeated regionally ranked Bowie State 63-59 on January 25, 2020. The Bulldogs had just dropped out of the national top 25 the week before.
Outside of the conference the Lions hold wins over Kutztown University (the PSAC East pre-season favorite), Shippensburg University, West Chester University and clarion University. Lincoln also earned an exhibition game win at division I North Carolina Central University in December.
The Lions have the top scoring offense in the CIAA, averaging 75.5 points while boasting the thirds best defense in the league, giving up an average of 57.1 points. Lincoln also leads the league scoring margin (18.4) (16
th nationally); turnovers forced (24.08) (4
th nationally), free throw percentage (71.1), assists (361) (13
th nationally) and assists per game (15.0).
Lincoln has one remaining home game as they host Saint Augustine's University on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at 5:30 p.m. The lions will finish their season on the road with games against Virginia Union and Bowie State.
