Four players scored in double figures as the Lincoln University men's basketball team battled with host Virginia Union University eventually losing to the Panthers 91-81 Saturday afternoon at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Virginia.

The Lions fall to 8-19 overall and 4-10 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association games. The Panthers improve to 16-10 overall and 9-4 in league play.

Bernard Lightsey (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) and
Jordan Camper (Chester, Pa./Chester) led the way for the Lions with 22 and 20 points respectively. Lightsey collected the bulk of his points from beyond the three point arc, making 5-of-12 from long range.  Camper scored the majority of his points from the free throw line, making 12-of-13 while also grabbing seven rebounds.Â
Deaquan Williams (Camden, N.J./Camden) added 13 points and a team-high nine rebounds while
Zahrion Blue (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) chipped in 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Williams also led the team with three assists.

Camper opened the game with a pair of free throws, giving Lincoln their only lead as VUU followed with a 14-4 uprising to take a 14-6 lead. A dunk from Williams and a layup from Blue cut the deficit in half to 14-10 heading into the first media timeout. Another run by the Panthers, this one an 11-4 spurt put the hosts up by double digits 25-14 with 7:36 left. Lincoln cut the lead toi five on two occasions, the last at 29-24 with 3:33 left. A 12-4 run by the Panthers gave the host team their biggest lead of the half at 13, 41-28 before the Lions scored the final four points of the half to trail 41-32 at the break.

The Panthers scored the first eight points of the second half to take their biggest lead at 17, 49-32. Lincoln battled back with a 14-4 spurt to close within seven 53-46 with 14 minutes left. Two possessions later the lead was back up to double digits where it would stay for the next eight minutes before the second of two free throws by Williams brought the Lions back within single digits, 73-64 with 5:05 left. A tip in from Williams cut the lead back to seven at 77-70 at the 3:34 mark. A VUU three-ball however, put the lead right back up to double digits. Lincoln continued to battle and cut the lead back to eight on three different occasions, the last on Lightsey three-ball with 35 seconds left but this would be as close as they come as the Panthers  finished the game with a pair of free throws by Terrell Leach.Â

Leach finished with 23 points while Tyriek Railey added 23. Raemaad Wright added 14 points. Jordan Peebles and Charles Tart III had 11 and 10 rebounds respectively.

The Lions will close out their regular season with a game at Bowie State University on Saturday, February 22, 2020. Tipoff is at 4:00 p.m.
