Box Score The Lincoln University men's basketball team dropped a hard-fought road contest Tuesday night as Elizabeth City State University used a late rally to defeat the Lions 74-71 at the Vaughn Center in Elizabeth City, North Carolina.
The Lions fall to 3-12 on the season and 0-5 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) games. The Vikings improve to 8-5 overall and 2-2 in league play.
Jordan Camper (Chester, Pa./Chester) and
Zahrion Blue (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) led the Lions with 18 points apiece, while
Bernard Lightsey (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) added 13 points.Â
Deaquan Williams (Camden, N.J./Camden) recorded his eighth double-double of the season with 12 points and ten rebounds.
The Lions led by one at the break, 37-36 before the Vikings came back to take a two point lead 49-47. Lincoln then ran off 11 straight points to take a nine point lead 58-49 with Lightsey starting the run with a three-pointer with 13:01 remaining and Blue capping the run with a three-ball of his own at the 10:58 mark. Following and ECSU free throw, the Lions scored on their next two possessions, a Williams layup and a monster slam dunk from Blue to take their biggest lead of the game at 62-52 with 9:43 remaining, prompting a Viking timeout.
The Vikings came right back with a 7-2 run to cut the lead in half 64-59 with 4:53 remaining and further cut into the lions lead with a step-back three-pointer from Justin Faison to make the score 68-65 with 2:02 left in the game.  ECSU then cut the deficit to one at the 1:51 mark and took the lead, 72-71 on a fast break bucket from Shykeef Daniels with 29.4 seconds left. Faison then sank two free throws with 14.5 seconds left to seal the win as Lincoln attempt to tie fell short.
Faison and Daniels finished the game with 19 points apiece to lead the Vikings. Joseph Allen added eight points and eight rebounds. Destin Duncan chipped in nine points.
The Lions return to action on Thursday, January 9, 2020 when they take on Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina. Tip off is at 7:30 p.m.
