Deaquan Williams' (Camden, N.J./Camden) tip-in with 9.7 seconds left in the game capped a come-from-behind rally by the Lincoln University men's basketball team as they edged Virginia Union University 74-73 Wednesday evening at Manuel Rivero Hall.

With the win, the Lions improve to 5-13 overall and 1-5 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association games. The Panthers fall to 9-8 overall and 3-2 in league games.

Williams was one of four players in double figures for the Lions, scoring 14 points while also grabbing a game high 14 rebounds to notch his tenth double-double of the season.Â
Bernard Lightsey (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) led the Lions with 17 points while
Keynante Williams (Fredericksburg, Va./Rock Creek Christian Academy) chipped in 14 and dished out a team-high five assists.Â
Jordan Camper (Chester, Pa./Chester) had 13 points and nine rebounds

The Lions trailed by seven with just 2:02 left when they began their final push. Camper started the rally with a dunk and was fouled. He converted the free throw for the three-point play and Lincoln trailed 73-69 with 1:44 left. Lightsey sank a three pointer bucket from the top of the arc with 1:13 left to pull the Lions within one. After a couple of missed three-point attempts from the Panthers, the Lions controlled the ball with under 30 seconds left and the shot clock turned off. Lightsey got a clean shot but was just off the mark but right at Williams who tapped the ball into the cylinder for the go-ahead bucket with 9.7 seconds left.  The Panthers could not convert a last chance shot and the Lions hung on for the win.

Lincoln held a slim 32-30 lead at the half as the Panthers came out strong, scoring the first eight points to pull ahead 38-32. The Lions kept battling and took the lead back 42-41 on a
Deonta Dunlap (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill Academy) three-ball and extended it to as many as ten midway through the quarter. The Panthers came back with a 15-4 spurt to retake the lead and increased it to seven before the Lions made their final push.

Terrell Leach led the Panthers with 18 points while Jordan Peebles chipped in 15. Tyriek Railey rounded out VUU's double figure scorers with 13 points. Raemaad Wright led the team with eight rebounds while Leach dished out five assists.

The Lincoln men's basketball team returns to action on Saturday, January 18, 2020 when they travel to Orangeburg, South Carolina to face Claflin University in a CIAA cross division contest. Tipoff is at 4 p.m.
