Volleyball Team Faces Frostburg State Friday Night

 
The Lincoln University women's volleyball team is back in action on Friday September 6 with a road contest at Frostburg State University.  Tipoff will be at 6 p.m. at FSU's Bobcat Arena.

Friday night's contest will be the first meeting between the two squads.  The game will be the season opener for the Bobcats who finished last year with an 11-23 mark.  The Lions enter the game with an 0-1 record following Thursday night's season opening loss to Notre Dame of Maryland University. In the loss at Notre Dame, Kaymoni Kent and Jasmin Lewis  led Lincoln with three kills apiece.  Tierra Russaw (Westland, Mich./Summit Academy)  had seven assists and a match-high ten digs.  Lewis, Russaw and Tymera Crudup (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat)  each recorded a service ace while Kent had a solo block.

Lincoln returns seven players from last year's squad, led by senior Tierra Russaw (Westland, Mich./Summit Academy).  Russaw notched 72 kills and 16 aces in 2018.  She also recorded 56 assists and was second on the team with 127 digs.  Junior Tymera Crudup (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) returns for her third season as the team's libero.  Crudup led the team in digs in 2018 with 262.  Russaw and Crudup became the eighth and ninth players in program history to record 500 career digs, finishing the season ranked seventh (Russaw, 531) and eighth (Crudup, 520) respectively on the Lions' all-time list. Sophomore Kaiya Lewis (Woodhaven, N.Y./Queens Preparatory Academy) led the team with 53 total blocks, including a school record 32 block assists.  Lewis was second on the team with 80 kills.

Frostburg returns 11 players from last season's team including All-CAC Second Team honoree Biamba Tshitenge.  Tshitenge led the team with 288 kills and a .238 attack percentage.  Cori Smothers is the Bobcats top defensive returnee as well as their top returning setter, leading her team with 602 digs last season while also recording 79 assists.  Bailey Godlove also provides a spark on offense, recording 203 kills last season while playing in every match.  Smothers and Godlove also led the team with 43 and 40 service aces respectively.
 
Following Friday night's contest, the Lions return home and will again face Frostburg in their home opener on September 10, 2019. Tipoff for this game is at 6 p.m.
