Bassett Named to Black College Football Player of the Year Award Watchlist
Atlanta, Ga. (Aug. 14, 2019) - Lincoln University senior defensive lineman Solomon Bassett has been named to the 2019 Black College Football Player of the Year Award Watch List as announced by the Black College Football Hall of Fame this morning.

The Black College Football Player of the Year Award is presented annually to the most outstanding football player from a Historically Black College & University. Former North Carolina A&T, and current Chicago Bears running back Tarik Cohen was selected as the inaugural recipient of the Award in 2016; Bowie State quarterback Amir Hall was the 2017 and 2018 recipient.

Bassett is one of just 48 players selected to the watch list and one of nine players from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA).  The list includes 29 players from two Division I conferences, the MEAC and the SWAC and 18 from two Division II conferences, the CIAA and SIAC along with one independent.

All-CIAA Pre-Season Team and Predicted Order of Finish Announced
Lincoln University senior defensive lineman Solomon Bassett (Fort Worth, Texas/Boswell)  was named the Central intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Pre-Season All-conference Team as announced at the 2019 CIAA Football Media Day in Salem, Virginia Thursday morning.

In addition the conference announced its predicted order of finish as voted on by the league's football coaches.  The Lions were predicted to finish 12th overall.

Bassett is coming off  a strong 2018 season which saw him earn several accolades of the course of the season and post-season.  A first Team All-CIAA honoree, Bassett also earned Don Hansen Super Region Two All Region Third team honors and was named to the Division II All-ECAC Team.

In addition, Bassett was honored for his academic achievement, being named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team.  He was one of 24 football student-athletes across all divisions in the Philadelphia area to be named.

Statistically, Bassett lead the Lions with seven sacks and 13.5 tackles for loss.  His 82 yards from tackles for loss ranked third in the conference and his 13.5 tackles for loss was the sixth best mark in the CIAA.

The Lions produced a 1-9 record in 2019 and a 1-5 record in conference games. The league's coaches voted the team to finish 12th overall and sixth in the CIAA North Division.  The Lions return 38 players who saw action last season and will be joined by a mix of red-shirts, transfers and newcomers once training camp begins in early August.
