Sheldon Johnson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) and
Aidan Gomes (Bronx, N.Y./LaSalle Academy) each drove in two runs as the Lincoln University baseball team had their highest run output in an East Coast Conference game this season but eventually lost to St. Thomas Aquinas College 10-6 in the rubber game of the four game series at Palisades Credit Union Park in Pomona, New York on Saturday

The Spartans won the opening game on Saturday, defeating the Lions 8-2.Â

Johnson finished the game with three hits to go with his two RBI while Gomes and
Jalil Banks (Lynwood, Ill./Thornton Fractional South) each had two hits in the game.
Jordan Whisler (Parkesburg, Pa./Octorara Area) took the loss, tossing 5.1 innings and allowing eight runs on 12 hits while striking out three.

Gomes' single in the first inning drove in the first two Lions runs, plating Johnson who singled to lead off the game and
Kashif Hill (Brooklyn, N.Y./Benjamin Banneker Academy) who walked. His single also extended his hitting streak to six games.

The Spartans tied the game at 2-2 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third before the Lions struck for two more runs in the top of the fourth to take a 4-2 lead.

Johnson delivered a one-out single to score Grant Lindsay (walked to start the inning) and break the tie. Hill followed with a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Banks, who had singled following the Lindsay walk, making the score 4-2.

STAC came right back and tied the game up in the bottom of the fourth with a two run single by Andrew Jemsion and took the lead in the fifth , sending seven players to the plate and scoring three times to take a 7-4 lead. Michael Morgan's solo home run in the sixth made the score 8-4. An infield error by the Lions in seventh added another run.

Gomes walked to leadoff the eighth inning and moved to third on an error.Â
RJ Liverpool (Richmond, Va./Monacan) walked and Banks and Johnson connected on back-to-back singles to score both base runners and cut the lead to 9-6. The Spartans added a solo run in the bottom of the eighth to round out the scoring.

Hill, who saw his six-game hitting streak come to an end, extended his streak of reaching base safely to seven games with two walks in game two.

In the opener,
Max Guadalupe (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bluefield College) had three hits and an RBI while Hill added two hits as the Lions kept the game close giving up four runs in the seventh inning en route to an 8-2 loss.

Marcos Castillo (Brooklyn, N.Y./HS of Telecommunications) was saddled with the loss, despite giving up just one earned run in six innings pitched and allowing seven hits and striking out four.
Guadalupe's double in the third scored Hill with the first Lincoln run and cut the Spartans' lead to 2-1. Whisler and
Bradley Regalado (Queens, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin Memorial) had back-to-back one out singles in the fourth with Whisler later scoring on a single from Banks to tie the game at 2-2.

STAC scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fourth to take a 3-2 lead. The Lions still trailed by one heading into the bottom of the seventh when the Spartans plated four runs while recording just one hit to open up a 7-2 lead. Four walks in the inning along with a sacrifice fly and two double steals all led to the big inning for the Spartans.

The Spartans added one more run in the eighth inning to round out the scoring.

With the two losses the Lions fall to 1-28 on the season and 0-16 in ECC games.

The Lions are back home for their next conference series, against New York Institute of Technology. The series starts Thursday at the LU Baseball Complex, weather permitting.
