Whisler Homers but Lions Fall to Molloy, 8-4

Jordan Whisler (Parkesburg, Pa./Octorara Area) hit his first home run of the season as the Lincoln University baseball team dropped the opening game of their four-game series at Molloy College, 8-4 Friday afternoon at Mitchel Field in Uniondale, New York.
 
The Lions fall to 1-17 overall and 0-5 in East Coast conference games.   Molloy improves to 4-15 overall and 1-4 in ECC contest
 
Ronald Gibbs (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) took the loss to fall to 1-4 on the season.  Gibbs allowed eight runs on eight hits in 5.2 innings pitched.  Lincoln outhit Molloy on the afternoon 10-9 with Whisler, Aiden Gomes (Bronx, N.Y./LaSalle Academy) and Max Guadalupe (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bluefield College) each recording two hits
 
A pair of Molloy doubles staked the home team to a 2-0 lead in the first inning before Lincoln tied it in the second.  CarVonte Williams (Cleveland, Ohio/Twinsburg) led off the inning and reached on an error before Whisler delivered, hitting a one-out two run home run to left field to tie the game at 2-2. 
 
Molly added two more runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take an 8-2 lead. In the sixth Guadalupe led off with a single,. Stole both second and third base and came around to score on RJ Liverpool's (Richmond, Va./Monacan) two-out single, making the score 8-3.
 
The Lions got the final run in the ninth inning as Liverpool opened the inning by reaching on an error.  Sheldon Johnson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) followed with a two out single to move Liverpool into scoring position before Aidan Gomes (Bronx, N.Y./LaSalle Academy) delivered an RBI single to plate the Lions' final run.
 
Timothy Panetta earned the win for Molloy.  Sean Hogan had two hits and drove in three runs. Robby Keane also had two hits.
 
Lincoln will continue their series with Molloy on Saturday, March 30, 2019 with a doubleheader at Mitchel Field.  First pitch is noon.
