Lions Open CIAA Roundup with Win over Livingstone

Box Score The Lincoln University softball team opened up conference play at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) roundup with a 19-12 win over Livingstone College.  The roundup is being played at the South Park Complex in Elizabeth City, North Carolina.
 
The Lions improve to 2-10 with the win.  Livingstone falls to 0-3.
 
Tierra Russaw (Westland, Mich. /Summit Academy), Jemiah Groce (Newark, Del. /Christiana) and Mikhi Wright (Philadelphia, Pa./Phila. HS for Girls) had two hits apiece while Russaw drove in three runs and Selena Mulet (Baltimore, Md. /Catholic HS of Baltimore) added two RBI as the Lions took advantage of the  Blue Bear pitchers wildness, drawing 14 walks on the afternoon.
 
Groce earned her second win of the season striking out six and allowing eight hits.
 
Lincoln's first 11 batters all reached base in the first inning, nine of them via a walk or a hit batsman.  LU's first five batters walked with Russaw scoring on a wild pitch. She later delivered the Lions first hit of the game in her second plate appearance of the inning, driving in two more runs.  Groce drove in another with the first of her two doubles in the game and Tymera Crudup (Barnegat, N.J. /Barnegat) added another RBI with a bases loaded walk.
 
The Blue Bears bounced back with four runs in the bottom of the first but Lincoln exploded for seven more in runs in the second to take an 18-4 lead.   Fifia Waithe (Bronx, N.Y. /Life Sciences Secondary) walked to leadoff the inning and scored on a RBI fielder's choice off the bat of Russaw which loaded the bases.  DeeDee Irwin (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) drew a bases loaded walk to bring home Lena Rodriguez (Lockport, Ill. /Joliet Catholic Academy) and Crudup then scored on a passed ball and Russaw crossed the plate on a wild pitch.  Mulet then doubled to left field to bring home two more runs.  Kyleigh Norwood (Falls Church, Va. /Fairmont Heights) added a single and two batters later Wright drove in the final run of the inning with an infield hit.
 
The Lions added their final run in the fourth inning.  Groce led off with a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch before scoring on a passed ball, giving the Lions a 19-6 lead
 
Livingstone scored four times in the fourth inning and added two more in the fifth to make the final score 19-12.
 
Lincoln would play their second game of the day later that evening against Johnson C. Smith University, losing to the Golden Bulls 20-0 in five innings.
