Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Lions Dominant in Win over Hawks

Zahrion Blue (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) recorded his sixth double-double of the season, leading four players in double figures as the Lincoln University men's basketball team cruised to a 74-47 win over Chowan University Thursday night at Manuel Rivero Hall.

The Lions improve to 14-13 overall and 7-9 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association games.  The win is also a much needed north division victory and improves the Lions division record to 3-6.  With the win, the Lions secure the #4 seed as they hold the tiebreaker with Chowan via point differential, having split their head-to-head series this season.
Chowan falls to 12-13 overall and 5-11 in overall conference games.

Blue scored 11 points while grabbing a game high 12 rebounds.  Myles Markland (Petersburg, Va./Matoaca (Richard Bland)) came off the bench to score 12 points 93-4 FG, 5-6 FT) and Jordan Camper (Chester, Pa./Chester) connected on 6 of 10 shots to also score 12 points and narrowly missed a double-double with nine rebounds.  Gevon Arrington (Petersburg, Va./Petersburg (Richard Bland)) added 11 points, eight rebounds and a team high four assists.

The Lions led wire-to-wire, jumping out to a 13-3 lead in the first five minutes of play.  Chowan rallied with a 10-4 spurt to close the gap to four 17-13 at the 11:39 mark before the Lions countered with a 13-4 uprising to take a 13-point lead 30-17 with five minutes left in the half.  Two free throws from Markland in the final seconds pushed the lead to 14 at the break, 36-22.

Lincoln scored the first eight points of the second half to push the lead to 22 before CU's Timothy Bing sank a three-pointer to break the run.   Another run by the Lions, this one a 16-8 spurt pushed the lead to 27, 60-33.  A monster alley oop dunk by Camper and a traditional three-point play from Cameron Campbell (Fayetteville, N.C./Trinity Christian) highlighted the Lincoln offensive explosion.  The Lions upped their lead to as many as 30 late in the game  before settling in for the 27 point win.

The Lions will play their final home game of the 2018-19 season on Saturday, when they host Virginia State University.   Tipoff will be at 4:00 p.m.
