Lions Rally to Edge Vikings; Earn First CIAA Road Win of Season

Zahrion Blue (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) led three players in double figures as the Lincoln University men's basketball team won their first conference road game of the season, coming from behind to defeat Elizabeth City State University 70-68 at the Vaughn Center in Elizabeth City, North Carolina.
 
The Lions improve to 13-12 overall and 6-8 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association games.   ECSU falls to 12-13 and 8-6 in league play
 
Blue's 19 points (8-14 FG) led all scorers.  The freshman guard also had three steals and a team-high three assists. Jordan Camper (Chester, Pa./Chester) added 14 points while Josh Page (Washington, D.C./Rock Creek Christian Academy) chipped in 11.   Maurice Waters (Philadelphia, Pa./Constitution (Univ. District of Columbia)) had nine rebounds, eight points and four blocks.  The Lions shot 50% from the field for the game (24-48) and 47.1% (8-17) from three-point range.  Lincoln also was solid at the free throw line, connecting on 14 of 17 shots (82.4%)
 
The Lions fell behind early as the Vikings jumped out to an 11-4 lead and later built a double digit lead midway through the first half, leading by as many as 15, 36-21 late in the period.  A Gevon Arrington (Petersburg, Va./Petersburg (Richard Bland)) three-ball and a Cameron Campbell (Fayetteville, N.C./Trinity Christian) jumper cut the deficit to ten at the break 36-26.
 
ECSU opened the second half with a 11-4 run to take their biggest lead of the game at 47-30 with 14:58 left prompting a Lions timeout.    Following the timeout The Lions went on a 10-2 run to bring the deficit back down to single digits at 49-41 with 12:35 remaining.  Lincoln's run continued following an ECSU bucket with seven straight points, closing the gap to three and a layup by Campbell at the 9:17 mark completed a 23-6 uprising that tied the game at 53.  Two possessions later, Page nailed a three-point basket to give the Lions their first lead since their first possession of the game, 58-57.  Camper followed with a dunk and the Lions were up three 60-57 with 6:03 left in regulation.
 
The Vikings battled back, forging three ties before taking a brief 68-67 lead with 51 seconds left.  Campbell then added a layup, putting the Lions back on top 69-68 with 31 seconds left.   ECSU then missed two free throws but grabbed an offensive rebound before turning the ball back over to the Lions with six seconds left.   Camper added a free throw to round out the scoring as ECSU's final three-point shot was well off the mark.
 
Justin Faison and Corey Mendez led the Vikings with 15 points apiece.  John Maynor added 12 points while Joseph Allen chipped in ten.
 
The Lions return to action on Saturday, February 16, 2019 when they host Virginia Union University at Manuel rivero Hall.  Tipoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
