Livingstone Rallies to Defeat Lions, 67-63

Livingstone College rallied from a seven-point deficit late in the game as they defeated the Lincoln University men's basketball team 67-63 Saturday afternoon at New Trent Gym in Salisbury, North Carolina

The Lions fall to 2-8 overall and 0-3 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) games.  The Blue Bears improve to 7-2 overall and 3-0 in league play.

Jordan Camper (Chester, Pa./Chester) led the Lions with 13 points and fell one rebound shy of a double-double with nine.  Deaquan Williams (Camden, N.J./Camden) was also one rebound shy of a double-double with nine rebounds and 12 points.  Markus Stevenson (Voorhees, N.j./Hillcrest Prep (Ariz.) (Angelina College)) came off the bench to score 11 points.  Zahrion Blue (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) led all player with 11 rebounds and fell one point shy of a double-double with nine.

The Blue Bears placed all five starters in double figures with Cameron Carpenter leading the way with 16 points.  Lydell Elmore added 13 points while Navar Elmore and Roger Ray chipped in 11 points apiece.  Malik Smith added ten points.  Ray led all players with seven assists.

Livingstone jumped out to a nine-point lead midway through the first half 23-14 before the Lions went on a 10-0 run to take their first lead of the game at 24-23.  The Blue Bears countered with six straight points to go back on top 29-24 with 4:11 left.  Lincoln countered with six straight of their own, capped by a Brandon Smith (Philadelphia, Pa./Girard College) basket-plus one to lead by one 30-29 and after a tip-in by the Blue Bears Zahrion Blue (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) sent the Lions into the locker-room with a 31-30 lead.

The Blue Bears opened the second half with a 10-4 run to go back up by five, 40-35 before the Lions countered with a 9-0 run to go back on top 44-40.   The blue Bears came back and tied the game at 50-50 before and the Lions followed with a 9-2 run to lead 59-52 with 6:10 left.  The lions still led 61-54 following a Dequan Williams dunk before the Blue Bears turned up the defense.  Livingstone ran off 11 straight points to take a 65-61 lead.  Blue's jumper with 32 seconds left brought the Lions within two 65-63 before LC's Navar Elmore threw down a dunk with 2.1 seconds left to seal the win, 67-63.

The Lions return to action on Thursday, December 12, 2019 with a home contest against Claflin University.  The game will be a non-conference contest and tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.   Admission is free with a non-perishable food item or a donation to the Make-a-Wish Fund.
