Hunt and Bassett Earn ECAC Division II Football Honors

Danbury, Conn. -  A pair of Lincoln University football players have earned Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) player of the month honors for their performances in games played during the month of October.  The announcement was made by the ECAC communications office.

Senior quarterback Emmett Hunt (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area) was named ECAC Offensive Player of the month while senior Defensive Lineman Solomon Bassett (Fort Worth, Texas/Boswell) was named ECAC Special Teams Player of the month.

Hunt played in all four October games posting a passing efficiency of 153.84. The Coatesville, Pennsylvania native threw for 329 yards and three touchdowns against Johnson C. Smith including an 81-yard touchdown pass as he became the fifth QB in program history to throw for over 300 yards in game.  Hunt's 81-yard touchdown pass is the second longest in modern program history behind an 82-yard toss by Brandon Austin (Greenville, N.C./Farmville Central) in 2009.

Two weeks after the Johnson C. Smith game, Hunt again threw three touchdown passes in a loss at Elizabeth City State, completing 11 of 17 passes for 172 yards.

For the month, Hunt completed 33 of 59 passes (55.9%) for 571 yards (142.8 yds/game) and had six touchdown passes.

Bassett also shined in the Johnson C. Smith game, tying a school record by blocking two kicks in the Lions 26-19 loss.  His effort earned him Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Special Teams Player of the Week honors.

The senior defensive lineman tied his record again two weeks later with two more blocked kicks at Elizabeth City State, giving him four blocked kicks on the season. His four blocked kicks are the most in NCAA Division II this season and is he one of only five players in all of NCAA college football (FBS, FCS, II, III) to have four blocked kicks this season.

Bassett finished the month with 14 total tackles (three for loss) and two sacks to go along with his four blocked kicks.

The Lincoln University football team will conclude their season on Saturday, November 9, 2019 when they host Chowan University at Lions Stadium.  Kickoff is at 1 p.m.
