Jackson Throws Three TD's as Lions Fall at Bowie State

Eban Jackson II (Los Angeles, Calif./Narbonne) threw three touchdown passes but the nationally ranked Bowie State Bulldogs powered their way to a 65-20 win over the Lions Saturday at Bulldogs Stadium in Bowie, Maryland.

The Bulldogs, ranked #15 in the most recent Division II AFCA football poll remain undefeated with a 9-0 overall record and a 6-0 mark in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) games. The win also clinched the CIAA North Division title, their fourth in five years.  The Lions fall to 0-9 overall and 0-6 in league play.

Jackson completed 13 of 27 passes for 208 yards with three touchdown tosses while Emmett Hunt (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area) added 80 yards  on five completions.  The quarterback duo however also threw three interceptions apiece with two of those returned for touchdowns.

Dah'mear Triplett (Elkton, Md./Elkton) had the first 100-yard receiving game of his career, catching six passes for 105 yards and two touchdowns.  Deontae Brockington (Randallstown, Md./Baltimore City College HS) had the Lions other touchdown catch and finished the game with four receptions for 59 yards.  Justin Johnson (Etters, Pa./Red Land) ran for 51 yards.

Lincoln gained a total of 329 yards of total offense but was plagued by turnovers the whole game, coughing the ball up a total of nine times (six interceptions, three fumbles) leading to a total of 37 BSU points.  Bowie State racked up 406 yards of total offense (120 rushing, 286 passing).

The Bulldogs struck in the opening minute when Demetri Morsell picked off a Jackson pass and returned it 34 yards for the touchdown just 48 seconds into the game.  BSU added three more scores to take a 28-0 lead before the Lions got on the scoreboard late in the first quarter.

The Lion's first score was set up by their defense as D'Rico Cook (Waldorf, Md./St. Charles) recovered a Bulldog fumble on the BSU 28 with 1:56 left in the quarter.  Two plays later Jackson found Triplett open for a 29-yard touchdown reception, making the score 28-6.

BSU added four more scores in the second quarter capped by Morsell's second pick-6 of the game with 1:51 left in the half, giving the Bulldogs a 55-6 lead.

An 11-play 65 yard scoring drive to open the third quarter pushed the Bulldog leasd to 62-6 and they would make it 65-6 on a Gene Carson field goal.

The Lions continued to battle as the fourth quarter began, forcing a BSU punt and taking over on their own 35-yard line.  Jackson threw the ball eight times on the drive with six completions, culminating in Triplett's second TD catch of the afternoon, this one from 27 yards out.

Lincoln drove and scored again on its next possession after forcing a three-and-out on the Bulldogs. Jackson found Deontae Brockington (Randallstown, Md./Baltimore City College HS) open the end zone with 1:53 left.  Cole Klubek's (Biloxi, Miss./Hamburg) extra-point attempt was good as the Lions closed the gap to 65-20.

The Lions will close out their season at home on Saturday, November 9, 2019 when they host Chowan University.  Kickoff is at 1:00 p.m.
