The 2019 football season came to a close for the Lincoln University Lions as they dropped a 44-20 decision to Chowan University at Lions Stadium Saturday afternoon.

Eban Jackson II (Los Angeles, Calif./Narbonne) threw for 245 yards and one touchdown while Ahmad Foster Powell and
Elijah Bolden (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic) each ran for a score.Â
Dah'mear Triplett (Elkton, Md./Elkton) and
Hunter Terrell (Washington, D.C./H.D. Woodson) each had six catches on the afternoon with Triplett catching the lone touchdown pass from Jackson.

Lincoln's defensive secondary saw a lot of action Saturday as three players recorded a combined 36 tackles on the afternoon.Â
Devon Cathcart (Chicago, Ill./Thornton Fractional South) led all players with 14 tackles while
Vaughn Diggs (Fort Washington, Md./Friendly) and
Rob Thomas III (Cleveland, Ohio/Glenville) had 11 tackles apiece. Â
Solomon Bassett (Fort Worth, Texas/Boswell), Lincoln's senior defensive lineman had six tackles, two sacks, two break-ups and blocked a kick for the fifth time this season, the most in NCAA.

On the opposite side of the field, Chowan's ground game came to life as the team ran for 493 yards with DeShaun Wethington running for 307 yards and three touchdowns. Bryce Witt passed for 103 yards and a touchdown on 11 completions.

The two teams battled back and forth throughout the first the quarters with the Hawks holding a slim 21-20 lead heading into the final quarter. Chowan added 23 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to secure the win.

Wethington had the lone score in the first quarter staking the Hawks to a 7-0 lead.  Bolden capped off a seven-play 69-yard drive to open the second quarter with his first touchdown of the season, a six yard run, with
Cole Klubek (Biloxi, Miss./Hamburg) tying the game at 7-7 with the extra point.Â

The Hawks came right back and scored on their next possession to take a 14-7 lead which held up until halftime. Late in the third quarter the Lions tied the game at 14-14 on Foster-Powell's seven yard touchdown run.Â

Chowan again scored on their next possession to go up 21-14 before Jackson lobbed a pass to Triplett near the back corner of the end zone. The extra point attempt failed and Lincoln trailed 21-20 heading into the fourth quarter.

A bad snap on a punt near the end zone led to a safety by the Hawks who now led 23-20. Wethington than added his third touchdown of the afternoon to make the score 29-20. Basset blocked the ensuing extra point attempt. Chowan scored on each of their next two possession to put the game out of reach.

Lincoln finishes the season at 0-10 overall and 0-7 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association games. Chowan closes out their 2019 campaign at 3-7 overall and 2-5 in league play.
