Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Rodriguez Sets Single Season Saves Mark as Lions Fall to Wildcats

Senior goalkeeper Lena Rodriguez (Lockport, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy) added her name yet again to the Lincoln University women's soccer record book with a 21-save performance en route to breaking the program's single season saves record as the Lions fell to Daemen College 7-0 Saturday afternoon in Amherst, New York.

The Lions fell to 1-13 overall and 0-7 in East Coast Conference games.  The Wildcats, ranked #10 in the most recent NCAA Division II East Region poll, improved to 10-3-3 overall and 3-2-2 in league games.

Rodriguez entered the game tied with Tanina  Cook for the single season saves mark with 198, a mark Cook set 12 years ago in 2007.  The senior 'keeper broke the mark with her first save of the game off a shot from Daemen's Jamie Boyar at the 7:43 mark.   Rodriguez went on to stop a total of 21 Wildcat shots on the afternoon giving her 219 saves for the season, the most by an NCAA Division II goalkeeper this year.  Her 21 saves mark the fifth time this season she has record 20 or more saves in a single game.

Boyar meanwhile was also chasing a record, needing three goals to become Daemen's all-time leader.  She got her first goal just 29 seconds after Rodriguez stopped her first shot. Rodriguez and the Lincoln defense then held her in check, denying the senior forward the opportunity to break the Wildcat's all-time goals record at home.  Boyar finished the game with a team-high seven shots on goal, with six of them stopped by Rodriguez.

Kenya Davis (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Osseo) and Kianna Lee (Bushkill, Pa./East Stroudsburg North) had the only shots on goal in the game for the Lions

Erin Egan later added two goals as Daemen jumped out to a 5-0 lead by halftime.  The Wildcats scored twice more in the second half to round out the scoring.

The women's soccer team will closed out their season at home on Sunday, November 10, 2019 with a game against Mercy College.  Kickoff is at 1:00 p.m. in Lions Stadium.
