Camper, Blue Notch Double-Doubles as Lions Win the "Battle of the First" over Cheyney

Jordan Camper (Chester, Pa./Chester) and Zahrion Blue (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) recorded double-doubles, leading five Lincoln men's basketball players in double figures as the Lions routed Cheyney University 98-50 in their annual "Battle of the First" game in front of a packed house at Manuel Rivero Hall Tuesday night.
 
Lincoln improves to 1-2 on the season with the win.
 
Camper came off the bench to score 12 points (4-5 FG) and grab 13 rebounds in just 14 minutes of action.  The junior center also had a pair of blocked shots.  Blue continues his stellar start to the season, scoring a game-high 17 points to go along with ten rebounds.  Deonta Dunlap (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill Academy) added 13 points while Brandon Smith (Philadelphia, Pa./Girard College) and Moetaz Ashkar (Landover Hills, Md./Parkdale (Prince George CC)) chipped in 11 apiece.  Deaquan Williams (Camden, N.J./Camden) joined Camper and Blue in double figure rebound totals, pulling down ten boards.  Semaj Mills (Philadelphia, Pa./Mathematics, Civics and Science Charter) led all players with seven assists.
Devon Mills led the Wolves with 13 points.
 
The Lions scored the first eight points and led-wire-to-wire, opening up a double digit lead jst five minutes into the game, 14-3 following a Keynante Williams (Fredericksburg, Va./Rock Creek Christian Academy) three-ball. Allon Johnson's (Plainfield, N.J./The Patrick School) layup at the 10:53 mark extended the lead to 23-7 as the Lions continued to increase their lead as the half wore on.  Dunlap's three-pointer with 3:48 gave Lincoln their biggest lead of the half at 37-14.  The Wolves closed out the half with a 12-4 spurt to cut the margin to 15 at the break, 41-26.
 
Cheyney closed within 13 in the opening minutes of the second half but a layup from Smith and a three-ball from Keynante Williams (Fredericksburg, Va./Rock Creek Christian Academy) quickly pushed the Lions lead back up to 18.  The Wolves shaved a few points off the lead again before the Lions used a 14-4 run capped bya Camper dunk to lead 64-40. With 10:37 left.  Lincoln steadily increased their lead the rest of the way pushing the margin to 30 with eight minutes left and then 40 with three minutes to go and closed the game with a 9-2 run for their biggest lead of the game at the final buzzer.
 
The Lions finished the game shooting 43.6% (34-78) from the field while holding the Wolves to just 25.4% (17-67) shooting.  Lincoln was 18-29 (62.1%) from the free throw line and made 12 three-point field goals.  The Lions outrebounded the Wolves 63-45.
 
The men's basketball team returns to action on Thursday, November 14, 2019 with a game at Holy Family University in Philadelphia. Tipoff is at 7:00 p.m.
