Panthers Snap Lions Win Streak

The Lincoln University women's basketball team had their four-game winning streak snapped, falling to Virginia Union University 76-40 Saturday afternoon at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Virginia.

Lincoln falls to 11-10 overall and 5-5 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) games.  The Panthers improve to 17-1 overall, 8-1 in league play.

Kwanza Murray (Summerville, S.C./Summerville (Lackawanna College)) led the Lions with 16 points.  Deja Reynolds (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter (Temple)) added nine points.  Alisia Machado (Brooklyn, N.Y./Medgar Evars Prep (Grambling)) grabbed 11 rebounds.  DeAshia young dished out four assists.

VUU's Jasmine Carter led all players with 18 points and 18 rebounds.  Bianca Lockamy added 13 points and Shareka McNeill chipped in 12.  Ifunanya Okoye came off the bench to score 11 points.

The Panthers led the contest wire-to –wire, jumping out ot a 17-2 lead before Murray's three-ball accounted for the Lions second field goal of the quarter.  The Panthers led 20-5 after one period.

Virginia Union increased their lead to 40-18 at the half and continued to increase the margin as the second half wore on. Lincoln finished the game with an 8-3 run with Murray scoring all eight points to make the final margin 76-40.

The Lions return to action on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 when they travel to Murfreesboro, North Carolina to take on Chowan University.  Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m.
