Men's Basketball Team Aims to Get Back on Winning Track vs. Falcons

Raleigh, N.C. -  Following their first CIAA road loss of the season, the Lincoln University men's basketball team looks to rebound when they face Saint Augustine's university on Saturday, January 12, 2019

The Series:
Saturday's game will be the 14th meeting between St. Augustine's and Lincoln.  The Falcons lead the all-time series 8-5, having won the first eight games between the two teams.  The Lions have won the last five times they have played, dating back to January 12, 2013.   Lincoln is 3-4 lifetime in Emery Gymnasium and have won the last three times they have visited the Falcons nest.

About the Lions: 
Lincoln University enters Saturday's game with an 11-5 overall record and a 4-1 record in conference games.  Fayetteville State snapped Lincoln's eight game winning streak on Thursday night with a 77-73 win.
 
Cameron Campbell (Fayetteville, N.C./Trinity Christian) is the Lions leading scorer, averaging 14.9 points per game.  He also leads the team shooting 50.6% from three point range.
 
Deaquan Williams (Camden, N.J./Camden) is averaging 13.71 points per game and a team high 9.3 rebounds per game.  He leads the team with seven double-doubles and is second on the team with 14 blocks.
 
 Zahrion Blue (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) has recorded three-double-doubles on the season and is averaging 9.1 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. (second behind Williams)  He also leads the team with 19 steals
 
Maurice Waters (Philadelphia, Pa./Constitution (Univ. District of Columbia)) leads the team shooting 52.6% from the field (41-78). Tamir Green (Philadelphia, Pa./Constitution) leads the team with 54 assists.  Jordan Camper (Chester, Pa./Chester) leads the team shooting 73.2% from the free throw line (30-41) and has a team-high 20 blocks on the season.

Last Time Out
Fayetteville State University snapped the Lincoln University men's basketball team's eight game winning streak Thursday night with a 77-73 victory over the Lions at the Felton J. Capel Arena in Fayetteville, north Carolina.

The loss was Lincoln's first Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association loss of the season as the Lions fall to 11-5 overall and 4-1 in league play.  The Broncos improve to 2-9 overall.
 
Cameron Campbell (Fayetteville, N.C./Trinity Christian) led all scorers with 22 points (6-9 3 FG, 4-5  FT) while Bernard Lightsey (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) added 14 points (5-9 FG, 4-7 3FG) while Jordan Camper (Chester, Pa./Chester)  chipped in ten points and had two blocks.  Deaquan Williams (Camden, N.J./Camden) led the team with nine rebounds.  Zahrion Blue (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) and Tamir Green (Philadelphia, Pa./Constitution) had three assists apiece.

Blue Named CIAA Rookie of the Week
Lincoln University men's basketball player Zahrion Blue (Princeton, N.J./Princeton)  has been named the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week for his performance during the week ending January 6, 2019.

In the Lions game against Shepherd on Saturday, Blue led the team with a career-high of 17 points as Lincoln won its eighth consecutive game, defeating the Rams, 80-59. Blue shot 4-7 from the field, including a 2-3 performance from three-point range. He was also 7-8 from the free throw line. 

The freshman swing player also notched 12 points in Lincoln's 77-75 exhibition game win over Morgan State University on Thursday.

Lincoln Earns first Ever D2SIDA Regional Ranking
The Lincoln University Men's Basketball team is off to their best start since the 2013-14 season and has entered the D2SIDA Atlantic Region Media Poll for the first time in program history.  The Lions are ranked eighth in this week's poll following their big win over Shepherd University on Saturday and an exhibition game win at Division I Morgan State University on Thursday. 
 
The Lions are currently 11-4 overall and 4-0 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) games. Lincoln has won eight straight games  following their last loss on December 1, 2018 and are one of just three teams in the region with 11 or more wins joining top-ranked Indiana (Pa.) (13 -0) and #5 Shippensburg (12-3).

Campbell Garners CIAA Player of the Week Honors
Lincoln University men's basketball player Cameron Campbell (Fayetteville, N.C./Trinity Christian) has been named the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Men's Basketball Player of the Week for his performance during the previous two weeks ending on December 30, 2018.
 
This is the first CIAA Player of the Week honor for the junior guard.  As a freshman, Campbell earn CIAA Rookie of the Week honors on January 9, 2017.

Campbell helped lead the Lions to a 3-0 record, including 2-0 in conference play where the Lions are now 4-0 on the season. Campbell averaged 20 points and 5.3 rebounds per game in the three game stretch, shooting 57.1% from the field and a 63.2% mark from three point range. 

Scouting the Falcons
Saint Augustine's is currently 3-10 overall and 0-5 in league games. SAU dropped their last game,58-48 to Bowie State University.

Tyre Gathright leads the Falcons, averaging 17.8 points per game. His 18 three-point field goals are the most amongst SAU players as is his 36 free throws.  Gathright also leads the team with 20 assists and 11 steals.

Jquwan Ruffin is the olny other SAU player averaging double figures with 100 points in ten games played. He is second on the team with 17 assists and ten steals

D.J. Harrison is shooting 51.9% from the field  while Miguel Brown is making shots at a 57.4% clip.  Harrison also leads the team with 64 rebounds.

Last Time out for SAU
 Saint Augustine's University gave a great effort against Bowie State University but ultimately fell 58-48 in a CIAA men's basketball contest at Emery Gymnasium on Thursday, Jan. 10.
 
The point total was the lowest by a Falcons' opponent this season. It was also a season low for the Falcons.

Tyre Gathright was the only double-figure scorer for the Falcons, who shot 45.2 percent from the floor. The Preseason All-CIAA guard tallied 16 points and added two steals. The next closest scorer was Craig McDaniel, who punched in seven points off the bench.
