Diana Martinez (Kissimmee, Fla./St. Cloud) scored the lone goal as the Lincoln University Women's Soccer team lost to Salem University 9-1 Saturday afternoon at Robert Byrd HS Field in Clarksburg, West Virginia.
The Lions are now 0-4 while the Tigers improve to 1-1.
Martinez's goal came at the 30:02 mark in the first half as she shot from 40 yards out and the ball was just above the keeper. The goal cut the Lions deficit to 3-1. Salem scored once more in the first half to lead 4-1 at the break.
The Tigers added five unanswered goals in the second half and finished the game with a 24-1 advantage in shots on goal and a 43-1 advantage in total shots.
Lena Rodriguez (Lockport, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy) had five first half saves and took the loss in net. Megan Dawka made her collegiate debut in the second have and had ten saves.
Lincoln returns to action on September 12, 2018 when they face Chowan University in their home opener. Kickoff is at 4 p.m.
