The Lincoln University women's soccer team played their first ever East Coast Conference match on Saturday, falling to Queens College 7-1 at Lions Stadium.
The match was also the home opener for the Lions who fell to 0-5 overall and 0-1 in ECC matches. Queens earned their first win of the season, improving to 1-4 overall and 1-0 in ECC matches.
Diana Martinez (Kissimmee, Fla./St. Cloud) scored the lone goal for the Lions, putting the ball in the net in the 65th minute. It was her second goal of the season and 20
th of her Lincoln career. Martinez becomes just the fifth player in program history to score 20 or more career goals.
Victoria Ramirez came off the bench to record a hat-trick for the Knights, notching two goals in the first half and one in the second. Guro Eriksen also had two goals for Queens. The Knights scored four goals in the first half and added three more after Martinez's score cut the lead to 4-1.
Queens outshot the Lions 35-9 over the course of the match.
Lena Rodriguez (Lockport, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy) (0-4) took the loss in net for the Lions and recorded 15 saves. Shanae Kreps (1-4) earned the win for Queens, recording two saves while starting and playing just the first half.
The women's soccer team returns to action on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 when they travel to Rochester, New York to face Roberts Wesleyan College.
