Football Team Seeks First Win of Season as they Host Johnson C. Smith

The Lincoln University football team returns home for their second Central intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) divisional crossover game, hosting Johnson C. Smith University.   The Lions will be seeking their first win of the season as they take on the winless Golden Bulls.  This will be the seventh meeting between these two teams who last faced each other in 2013 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

    The Series:      This is the seventh meeting between these two teams.   The all-time series is tied with each team winning three times.  Lincoln's last win was on September 29, 2012 (55-53) while Johnson C. Smith's last win came on October 5, 2013 in Charlotte (49-10).  The two teams played each other a total of four times between 1930 and 1956.

 Last Time out for the Lions:  Lincoln opened conference play last week with a 33-0 loss at Livingstone College.  The Lions produced 176 yards of total offense with 101 coming in the air.  Vaughn Diggs (Fort Washington, Md. /Friendly) tied a school record with two fumble recoveries in the game while punter Cole Klubek (Biloxi, Miss.) kicked a 62-yard punt, becoming the fourth Lincoln player in the modern era to record a punt of 60 or more yards.
 
Last time out for the Golden Bulls:  The Golden Bulls dropped their third straight game of the season last Saturday, losing to Virginia State University 43-14.  VSU jumped out ot a 36-0 lead before Jachin Watkins put JCSU on the board with a touchdown in the third quarter.   The Golden Bulls added one more score with 40 seconds left in the game.

  • Named CIAA Defensive Lineman of the Week for the week ending 9/15…leads the team with three sacks and is second on the team with 20 tackles….Also has six tackles for loss
#7    Lavelle Cloyd (Lexington, Ky./Bryan Station (Kentucky State)) – Running Back
  • Had 44 yards on the ground vs. Livingstone and is the team's leading rusher on the season with 79 net yards on the ground
#8    Vincent Espinoza (Madera, Calif /Madera (West Hills)) – Quarterback
  • Leads the team with 216 yards passing and one touchdown.  Completed 21 of 453 passes, including a 42-yard touchdown throw in the loss at Clarion
#11   Reginald Mays Jr. (Reisterstown, Md./Franklin (Frostburg)) – Wide receiver/returner
  • Has 14 catches on the season for 196 yards receiving to lead the Lions.  Has also recorded 105 yards on kickoff and punt returns
