Lions Drops Two in Season Opening Tri-Match

The Lincoln women's volleyball team kicked off their 2018 season with a tri-match at Manuel Rivero Hall on Saturday.   The Lions dropped both contests, falling to Notre Dame University of Maryland in the opening game 3-0 and Gwynedd Mercy University in the final game 3-0.

The Lions are now 0-2.  Notre Dame improved to 3-0 while Gwynedd Mercy improved to 1-1.
 
In the opener the Lions dropped three straight to Notre Dame 25-11, 25-14, 25-13.   Tierra Russaw (Westland , Mich./Summit Academy) led Lincoln with three kills and six digs.  Alisa Foster (Philadelphia, Pa./Science Leadership Academy) had six assists and one service ace.  Kaiya Lewis led the team with three blocks.
 
Kayleigh Davis led Notre Dame with nine kills while Sarah Sweet added eight kills and a match high eight digs.   Sara Few had 18 assists.
 
The Gators had nine service aces while the Lions notched one and also recorded 33 kills to Lincoln's six in the match.
 
In the final match of the day, Gwynedd Mercy defeated the Lions 3-0 (25-22, 25-9, 25-16).  Russaw again led the Lions with six kills while also recording 12 digs.  Foster had 11 assists and a team-high 18 digs.  Tymera Crudup (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) added 14 digs.  Lewis finished the match with four blocks while Janae Stackhouse (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore PolyTech) added three.
 
Madelyn Mosser had seven kills to pace the Griffins while Bridget McTamney dished 18 assists and four aces.  Cait Saalfrank  had 18 digs to pace GMU.
 
The Lions return to action on Saturday, September 8, 2018 when they host one of the CIAA roundup s featuring three teams from the CIAA North Division taking on three teams from the CIAA South Division.  Lincoln will square off against Winston Salem State University, Johnson C. Smith University and Livingstone College over the course of the two-day roundup.
