The Lincoln University women's softball team dropped both games on the second day of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Softball Roundup on Saturday, losing to Fayetteville State in their first game 20-6 and falling 17-0 to Winston-Salem State University in their final game of the day. Both games went only five innings.
The two losses drop the Lions record to 0-6 overall and 0-4 in CIAA games. Fayetteville improves to 3-11 overall and 2-0 in league play while Winston Salem State ups their record to 2-17 overall and 2-2 in league contests.
Lincoln's six runs against Fayetteville was their highest run total so far in a game this season. The Lions had six hits against the Broncos.
Tierra Russaw (Westland, Mich./Summit Academy) went 2-for-2 with a double, a walk and two RBI.
Kyleigh Norwood (Falls Church, Va./Fairmont Heights) added a single and walked twice while also recording two RBI.
Ny'air Best (Burlington, N.J./Burlington City) also had an RBI single.
Jemiah Groce (Newark, Del./Christiana) took the loss falling to 0-4 on the season, giving up 13 hits while striking out two and walking three.
Rachel Rodriguez went 4-for-4 with three home runs and five RBI to lead the Broncos offensive attack. Madison Mendoza added two home runs and four RBI while Brittany Lee had one home run and three RBI.
Mendoza picked up the win for the Broncos.
Fayetteville scored ten times in the first inning with four home runs accounting for eight of them. Rodriguez homered twice in the inning and Mendoza and Lee each added a four-bagger.
Lincoln came back and added five runs in the second. Serena Mulet scored the first Lions run after getting hit with a pitch and moving to second don Faith queen's walk. Mulet later stole third and scored on Norwood's single. Queen later scored on a wild pitch and Russaw had the big hit in the inning, a two run double.
Norwood's bases-loaded walk drove in the Lions final run in the third inning, making the score 10-6 at the time.
The Broncos added 10 more runs over their next two at-bats to account for the remainder of the scoring.
In Lincoln's final game of the day, Erica Davis held the Lions to just one hit over five innings and also hit a home run as Winston-Salem State cruised to a 17-0 win.
The Rams took advantage of 11 Lincoln errors to produce their 17 runs while Alexis Washenko hit a three-run home run in WSSU's four run first inning and Davis a two-run blast in the third. The Rams scored seven times in the second and four more times in the fourth to round out their scoring.

The Lions will finish up the Roundup on Sunday with games against Johnson C. Smith University at 9:00 a.m. and Livingstone College at 11:00 a.m.
