Lions Fall on the Road at Bloomfield

The Lincoln University women's basketball team lost a tough road contest against Bloomfield College Saturday afternoon, 74-64 at the Bloomfield College Gymnasium.
 
The Lions fall to 2-5 on the season with the loss.  Bloomfield improves to 1-5.
 
Kenzie Spencer (Richmond, Va./Henrico) led three Lions in double figures with 18 points.  Alisia Machado (Brooklyn, N.Y./Medgar Evars Prep (Grambling)) added 14 points and five rebounds while DeeDee Irwin (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area) added ten points.  Jada Queen (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Catholic) led the Lions with ten rebounds and DeAshia Young (Detroit, Mich./Detroit Public Safety Academy (Labette CC)) had four steals.
 
Jaylah Bennett led the Bears with 19 points while Caitlin Townes added in 18.  Deja McKenzie and Bobbi Floyd rounded out the Bears' double figure scorers with 13 and 11 points respectively. 
 
The Bears jumped out to an 11-2 lead to open the game.  The Lions however ratcheted up the defense and held the Bloomfield scoreless over the final 5:20 as they rallied to tie the score at 11-11 by quarters end.
 
A basket by Shakira Edwards (Newark, N.J./Bloomfield Tech) two minutes into the second quarter gave Lincoln their first lead of the game at 13-11..  Bloomfield added five straight points to regain the lead at 16-13 and increased the margin to four on a Townes free throw.  Lincoln closed out the quarter on an 11-6 run to lead by one at the break 26-25.
 
In the third quarter the Bears scored six straight points midway through the quarter to break a 34-all tie and take a six point lead, later increasing that to nine in the final seconds before Irwin hit a three-ball to close the deficit to six 50-44 entering the fourth quarter.
 
A traditional three-point play from Edwards cut the lead in half to 50-47 as the quarter began.  Bloomfield however than ran off eight straight points to go up 58-47 with 7:430 left.  The Lions closed within four 63-59 was a layup from Machado at the 3:55 mark but this would be as close as they would get as the Bears finished the game on an 11-5 run.
 
The Lions return to action of Wednesday, December 5, 2018 for a game at Shippensburg University.  Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
