Lincoln University defensive lineman
Solomon Bassett (Fort Worth, Texas/Boswell) was one of 15 NCAA division II players named by the East Coast Athletic Conference (ECAC) to their Division II all-ECAC Team as announced by the ECAC office.
Bassett had the best season of his Lincoln career in 2018, leading the team with seven sacks and 13.5 tackles for loss. His 82 yards from tackles for loss ranked third in the conference and his 13.5 tackles for loss was the sixth best mark in the CIAA.
"Solomon was a tremendous player and leader for our team this year, said Lions Head Coach
Josh Dean. "I am definitely not surprised at his accomplishments."
Bassett had a season high nine tackles against CIAA South Division champion Fayetteville State in Lincoln's season opener and finished the season with 44 tackles. Solomon recorded two multiple sack games on the season in addition to a blocked kick, two breakups, two hurries, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Bassett earned CIAA Defensive Lineman of the Week honors for his performance against Clarion in week #3 (a sack, fumble recovery, blocked kick, and a quarterback hurry along with 1.5 tackles for loss and three tackles).
"He (Bassett) made a decision after spring football to be committed to his body and his craft and was determined to put forth a great season like he did," adds Dean. "Unfortunately we didn't have the team results we would have liked to have had but we felt that Solomon came to work every day ready to be a leader on and off the field. His passion and determination showed with the statistics and accomplishments he has received."
A Fort Worth, Texas native, Bassett is the Lions all-time leader in fumbles recovered and tied for the all-time lead in blocked kicks. He ranks second on the Lions all-time quarterback sacks list with 16 and is fourth on Lincoln's list with 36 tackles for loss. In his four years at Lincoln he has appeared in 30 games.
