Lions Drop Hard-Fought Contest at Millersville

The Lincoln University men's basketball team placed four players in double figures as they battled with host Millersville University Saturday afternoon at MU's Pucillo Gymnasium.  The four double figure scorers however were not enough as the Marauders came away with a hard-fought 76-72 win

The Lions fall to 1-2 with the loss while Millersville improves to 3-1.

Cameron Campbell (Fayetteville, N.C./Trinity Christian) led all scorers with 21 points (9-17 FG, 3-7 3FG) while Deaquan Williams (Camden, N.J./Camden) and Jordan Camper (Chester, Pa./Chester) each recorded double-doubles.  Camper finished the game with ten points (6-8 FT, 2-5 FG) and 12 rebounds while Williams scored 15 points (6-12 FG, 3-3 FT) and grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds.  Williams' 17 rebounds are the most by a Lincoln men's basketball player in the program's NCAA Division II history.  Bernard Lightsey (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter)  came off the bench to add 12 points (5-9 FG, 2-5 3FG).

Millersville also had four players in double figures led by Marcus Adkison (16 points) and Caden Najdawi (15 points).  Jamal Washington and James Sullivan had 13 and 11 points respectively. Najdawi led the team with six rebounds while Jaden Faulkner paced the Marauders with six assists.

The first eight minutes of the game saw four ties before the Lions scored five straight points, capped by a traditional three-point play by Williams, taking an 18-13 lead with 10:07 left in the half.  Millersville responded with 12 straight points to retake the lead and open their largest margin of the half, 25-18 before a Williams layup broke the string.  The Williams bucket started an 8-4 mini-run which closed the deficit to three 29-26 at the half.

The Millersville lead was still three when the Marauders went on a 10-0 tear to open up a 44-31 lead just five minutes into the second half.  Lincoln would get no closer than six points the rest of the way until the final 30 seconds of the game when a Campbell three pulled the  Lions within five and Lightsey's bucket at the buzzer made the final margin four points.

Statistically the two teams were fairly even in almost all shooting aspects.  The Lions made one more two-point field goal while the Marauders made two more three-point field goals with both teams taking an identical number of shots overall.  Each team made 12 free throws.  The Lions however held a big rebounding advantage 51-32 including a 19-9 mark on the offensive glas, leading to a 14-6 advantage in the second chance points category.  Millersville however took advantage of 23 Lincoln turnovers to score 23 points off them.  The Lions score 15 points off 12 Marauder turnovers.

The men's basketball team returns to action on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 when they host Kutztown University at Manuel Rivero Hall.  Tipoff is set for 8:00 p.m.
