Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Spear and Rodriguez Shine but Lions Fall at LIU-Post

Cleo Spear (Sydney, NSW, Australia/Oxford Falls Grammar School) scored her first goal of the season and goalkeeper Lena Rodriguez (Lockport, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy) became the Lions all-time saves leader but the Lincoln University women's soccer team dropped their East Coast Conference match at LIU-Post, 5-1 Sunday afternoon at the Pioneer Soccer Field in Brookville, New York.

The Lions fall to 0-11 on the season and 0-6 in ECC contests.  The Pioneers, ranked #6 in the most recent Division II East Region coaches poll, improve to 8-2-1 and 4-1 in league play.

Spear's goal came in the 71st minute as she took a cross pass from the left side of the net from Sarata Bello (Sagamu, Nigeria/Remo Methodist) and shot the ball from the middle of the box past the Pioneer goalkeeper, making the score 4-1 at the time.

Rodriguez became the Lions' all-time saves leader in the first half with her sixth save of the game in the 41st minute, giving her 325 for her career and surpassing Tanina Cook's (Landover, MD/CH Flowers) mark of 324 set from 2007-09.  The junior goalkeeper finished the game with 12 total saves and now has 331 in her career.

The Lions finished the game with 12 total shots, equaling their season high, with ten of those on goal.  Lincoln also outshot the Pioneers in the second half 10-8, but were outshot for the game 24-12 (17-10 on goal).

The Pioneers scored three times in the first 19 minutes to take a 3-0 lead with Kenya Oldroyd scoring twice and Emily Tirado once.  The Lions defense settled down and did not allow a goal the rest of the half.

Post made the score 4-0 in the 56th minute and added their final goal in the 80th minute to make the final score 5-1.

The Lions return to action next Sunday when they host Shaw University in a non-conference match at Lions Stadium.  Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
