The Lincoln University women's soccer team suffered their second consecutive loss Wednesday afternoon, falling to host Goldey-Beacom College 9-1 at NCS field in Wilmington, Delaware.
The Lions fall to 3-6 with the loss and remain winless against NCAA Division II competition this season (0-5) and winless on the road (0-5). The Lightning improve to 7-1-1 on the season.
Lincoln's lone goal came late in the second half. Trailing 8-0
Tara Brookins (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Twp.) took a 20[yard shot that went caught the top right corner at the 71:29 mark to make the score 8-1.
The Lions had only two other shots on goal in the game, one from
Diana Martinez (Kissimmee, Fla./St. Cloud) coming at the 65:24 mark and another from
Kayla Butts (Lansdowne, Pa./Bonner-Prendergast) at the 75:13 mark. All told, Lincoln had seven total shots with Martinez and Butts recording two apiece. All seven LU shots came in the second half.
GBC's Alanna Speaks scored three times and assisted on two other goals for a total of eight points on the day. She was one of seven different scorers for the Lightning who had 23 shots on goal and 40 total shots for the game.
Goldey-Beacom had led 4-0 at halftime.
Lena Rodriguez (Lockport, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy) took the loss in net for the Lions while Marta Lopez earned the win for the Lightning.
Lincoln's next game will be against Chowan University on October 4, 2017. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
