Lions Fall to Chowan, 8-0

The Lincoln University women's soccer team suffered another shutout loss on Sunday as Chowan scored four times in a five minute stretch late in the first half en route to an 8-0 win over the Lions in Murfreesboro, North Carolina.

The Lions fall to 2-3 with the loss while Chowan improves to 2-0-1.

The Hawks jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with a pair of goals in the first 3:38 and continued to peeper the Lions defense with seven more shots over the next 21 minutes, four of which were on goal and saved by Lions goalkeeper Lena Rodriguez (Lockport, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy).
 
It all fell part starting in the 40th minute when four different Hawk players scored in the final five minutes, giving the hosts an insurmountable 6-0 lead by halftime.
 
Meanwhile the Hawks defense was holding the Lions without a shot the entire first half.
 
In the second half, Chowan's Hope Kohl notched her second goal of the game in the 63rd minute to make the score 7-0.  Lincoln finally recorded their first shot of the game in the 69th minute, an on-goal effort by Alana Ward (Holly Springs, N.C./Trotwood Madison (Ohio)).  Lincoln's only other shot on goal came in the 83rd minute off the foot of Diana Martinez (Kissimmee, Fla./St. Cloud).
 
Chowan added one final goal with 27 seconds left to make the final score 8-0.
 
The Lions return to action on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 when they travel to play Penn State Brandywine..  kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
