The Lincoln University women's soccer team dropped their fourth game in their last five contests losing 5-1 to Penn State Brandywine 5-1 Tuesday afternoon in Media, Pennsylvania.
 
The Lions fall to 2-4 on the season while PSU-Brandywine, a USCAA program, improves to 3-0-1.
 
Lincoln's lone goal came in the second half as Alana Ward (Holly Springs, N.C./Trotwood Madison (Ohio)), the Lions backup goalkeeper who has been seeing more action up front as a striker of late, put a failed clear attempt past the PSU goalkeeper for her second goal of the season in the 54^th minute.  Ward had entered the game in the 50^th minute, replacing starter Kayla Butts (Lansdowne, Pa./Bonner-Prendergast) who had been ineffective in producing any offense for Lincoln.   Ward nearly had a second goal later in the game but her score was called back due the Lions being offside.
 
Ward's goal made the score 3-1 at the time.  PSU had jumped out to an early 1-0 lead just four minutes into the game on a left ot right shot from their leading scorer Brianna Banks.  Banks struck again in the early moments of the second half and PSU added a long goal on a shot over the head of Lions goalkeeper Lena Rodriguez (Lockport, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy) at the 49:29 mark to give PSU a 3-0 lead.
 
Penn State added two more goals late in the game to make thew final score 5-1.
 
For the game, the Lions were outshot 15-12 including a 10-8 margin on goal.
 
Lincoln returns to action on Saturday, September 16, 2017 when they host Trinity Washington University at Lions Stadium.     Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
