The Lincoln University women's softball team limited Shepherd university to just four hits but the Rams took advantage of a half dozen Lion errors and wildness from Lincoln pitcher
Diamond Scott (Piscataway,N.J/Piscataway, N.J.) as they beat the Lions 15-0 in five innings Saturday at the Shaw University Softball Challenge in Cary, North Carolina.
The Lions fall to 0-5 with the loss. Shepherd improves to 3-3
Scott took the loss, allowing just five earned runs while striking out six and walking 13. Shepherd's Lori Sturgill got the win, pitching five shutout innings, striking out ten and allowing just one Lincoln hit.
Lincoln had a threat in the first inning as Sturgill walked
Jasmin Harrison (Bridgeport, Conn./Bassick HS) and
Tierra Russaw (Westland, Mich./Summit Academy) with one out. A double play however ending the inning without a run scored for the Lions.
The Lions lone hit came in the top of the second inning as
Breanna Pigford (Mullica Hill, NJ/ Kingsway Regional HS ) led off with a single up the middle. She later advanced to second on a wild pitch before Sturgill struck out
Kyla Sead (New Haven, Conn./Hill Regional HS) to end the inning.
Shepherd meanwhile scored four times in the first inning and added nine more runs over the next two innings before plating their final two runs in the bottom of the fourth.Â
The Lions return to action later today when they play Bluefield State University.
