Diamond Scott (Piscataway,N.J/Piscataway, N.J.) and
Alexis Harrod (Kiribati, South Korea/Seoul American HS) combined to toss a five inning no-hitter despite allowing seven runs as the Lincoln University women's softball team completed a doubleheader sweep of Trinity College with an 18-7 win in the nightcap of Thursday's twinbill mat the LU Softball Field.
Â
The Lions also won the first game 11-3 in five innings and improve to 4-10 with the sweep. Trinity falls to 0-4. The sweep is the first for a Lincoln softball squad since April of 2013 when the Lions swept Bowie State University.
Â
The two Lions pitchers combined to walk a total of nine batters, hit four more and tossed three wild pitches as Trinity scored six times in the first two innings off Scott and added another run in fourth of Harrod. Harrod also earned the win in the opening game, pitching the complete game. She allowed just three runs on two hits while striking out seven and improves to 3-6 on the season.
Â
Scott was also one of two Lincoln players to hit inside-the-park home runs on the afternoon with both of these feats coming in the opening game. Scott's shot was a two-run hit over the Trinity left fielder's head in the second inning while
Jasmin Harrison (Bridgeport, Conn./Bassick HS) belted a shot into the right center field scoring Harrod ahead of her for two more runs in the fourth inning.
Â
In the second game, Scott gave up two runs without giving up a hit in the first inning and four more in the second as the Tigers jumped out to a 6-1 lead before the Lions exploded for four runs in the bottom of the second to close the gap to one 6-5.
Â
Tierra Russaw (Westland, Mich./Summit Academy) led off the inning with a single, stole two bases and scoring on a throwing error. A walk to
Aundrea Hall (San Antonio, Texas/Naples HS (Italy)) and a single by
Diamond Mickle (Fredericksburg, Va./Harford Comm. Coll.) put two more runners on for the Lions. Scott singled to plate Hall and later scored Lincoln's fourth run of the inning on a steal of home.
Â
Harrod replaced Scott in the circle and held the Tigers scoreless in the third. In the bottom half of the third Lincoln exploded for six runs to take and 11-6 lead. Lincoln banged out five hits in the inning all singles and were able to push runners across the plate by combining their hits with their running game (three stolen bases in the inning) and defensive lapses by the Tigers (two errors and a couple of passed balls.).
Â
A wild pitch by Harrod gave the Tigers their seventh run in the fourth inning and the Lions blew the game open in the bottom half of the frame, exploding for seven runs on five hits while Trinity committed four errors in the inning all leading to runs.
Â
Mickle drove in her second run of the game with an infield single to start the barrage. Two more runs scored when
Ashley Juma (Brandywine, Md./Fairmont Hgts. HS) reached on a throwing error by the Trinity third baseman which allowed her to advance to second. The Lions then delivered three consecutive extra base hits, starting with a long RBI triple by
Breanna Pigford (Mullica Hill, NJ/ Kingsway Regional HS ), scoring Juma. Harrod added another ribbie with a double to right center and Harrison followed with a double through midfield plating another Lincoln run.  Harrison scored the final run of the inning when Russaw reached base via the fourth Tiger error of the inning.
Harrod closed the game out by retiring the Tigers in order in the top half of the fifth to complete the combined no-hitter. Saahirah Brown's fly out to end the game was the only ball hit by the Tigers to exit the infield.  Brown took the loss in both games and is 0-4 on the season.
Â
Trinity jumped out to a 2-0 lead after their first at-bat in the opening game before the Lions took control with a seven-run explosion in the second inning.  Harrod opened the inning with a triple to center field and then scored on a wild pitch dropped third strike which also allowed Harrison to reach first and take an extra base on the same play. She came around to score on an RBI double from Russaw. Russaw later scored on Mickle's RBI groundout.Â
Diana Martinez (Kissimmee, Fla./St. Cloud HS) then followed with an RBI double through the left side before Scott connected with a blast to left field for her first home run of the season. Harrod got her second hit of the inning to drive in Pigford with the final run of the inning.
Â
Lincoln made the score 8-2 with an RBI groundout from Mickle in the third inning. And Trinity got the run back in the top half of the fourth via a Lincoln error.
Â
Harrison delivered the big blow in the fourth inning , a blast deep into the gap in right center field which allowed her to quickly circle the bases for a two-run home run and a 10-3 Lions lead.
Â
Harrod set the Tigers down in order in the top half of the fifth and the Lions needed just two batters to score their 11
th run and eight-run rule the Tigers. Mickle walked and Martinez doubled to centerfield to score Mickle with the final run of the game.
Â
Scott and Harrod, while combining for the no-hitter, also had four hits apiece for the Lions on the afternoon. Scott and Mickle both had four RBI on the afternoon. Pigford had three hits on the day and drove in three runs
