Game Recap: Softball |

Lions Held Hitless in First Two Games at Shaw Tournament

The Lincoln University softball team was held hitless as they dropped both games on the opening day of the Shaw University Softball Challenge Tournament on Friday in Cary, North Carolina.

The Lions lost their opening game to West Virginia State University 27-0 and later dropped their second game, falling to Wayne State University 16-0.  Both games lasted just five innings. The Lions record falls to 0-4 with the two losses.

Alexis Harrod (Kiribati, South Korea/Seoul American HS) took the loss against West Virginia State (3-7).  Harrod pitched four innings, allowing all 27 runs (21 earned) while striking out three batters.  The Lions did have two baserunners, a leadoff walk to Jasmin Harrison (Bridgeport, Conn./Bassick HS) in the first and a two-out base-on-balls to Aundrea Hall (San Antonio, Texas/Naples HS (Italy)) in the third.

West Virginia State did its damage in the first inning, sending 16 batters to the plate and scoring 11 runs.  WVSU got seven more runs in the second with the big blow being a grand slam home run off the bat of Brittany Allison.   The Yellow Jackets added seven more runs in the third and two more in the fourth.

In the Lions second game Wayne State scored in all five innings en route to their 16-0 win.  The win also gave Wayne State head coach Gary Bryce his 1,216th career win, making him the NCAA Division II all-time leader.

Diamond Scott (Piscataway,N.J/Piscataway, N.J.) took the loss for the Lions, throwing all five innings, allowing 16 runs (seven earned) on 13 hits.    Tierra Russaw (Westland, Mich./Summit Academy) was the Lions only baserunner, reaching on an error in the first inning.

The Warriors scored all the runs they would need with a six-spot in the first inning and added solo runs in the second and fourth inning, a pair of runs in the third and six more in the fifth.  Lyndsey Butler provided the power in the fifth inning with a three-run home run.

The Lions return to action on Saturday for day two of the Shaw University Softball Challenge with games against Shepherd University and Bluefield State University.
