Hawks Complete Season Sweep of Lions with 100-78 Win

The Lincoln University men's basketball team dropped their fourth consecutive game, falling to Chowan University 100-78 Wednesday night at Manuel Rivero Hall.

The loss drops the Lions record to 7-18 overall and 5-10 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association games. Chowan completes the season sweep of the Lions with the win and improves to 16-8 overall and 9-6 in league play.
 
Sean James (Newark, Del./Iona College) led four Lincoln players in double figures with 20 points.  Joshua Davis (Saginaw, MI/Louisburg Junior College) added 17 points while Carlton Allen (Trenton, N.J./Manhattan College) chipped in 13.  James Richardson (Jersey City, N.J./Raritan Valley Community College) contributed 11 points and a game-high eight assists.  Umar Saaba (Philadelphia, Pa./Boys Latin HS) led the Lions with seven rebounds.

The Hawks were led by Kevin Kuteyi's 31 points.   Marco Haskins added 21 points and Carlos Arroyo chipped in 20.   Arroyo also led all players with nine rebounds and eight assists; narrowly missing out on a triple-double.

A 21-6 flourish by the Hawks turned a close game into a big lead for the Hawks as the first half wore on.  The Lions cut the lead to ten at 35-25 on an Allen layup before falling behind by as many as 19 before closing the gap to 12 at halftime, 51-39.  Chowan finished the half shooting 59.3% (16-27) from the field, including a 6-7 (85.7%) effort from three point range.  Lincoln shot a respectable 44.8% from the field in the first half (13-29) but was just 3-13 (23.1%) from three point range.

The Lions opened up the second half with a mini-run of 7-4 cutting their deficit to single digits at 55-46 with 17:20 left.  Lincoln would get no closer over the next five minutes as the lead oscillated between 10 and 12 points.  The Lions got within ten at 64-54 when the Hawks when on a 22-8 run that left no doubt as to who would be the victor at the final buzzer. Chowan increased their lead to as many as 28, 98-70 with 2:24 left before settling in for the 22-point win.

The Hawks finished the game shooting 60.4% from the field, connecting on 32 of 53 shots, including a 12-17 effort (70.6%) from beyond the arc.   The Lions shot 45.2% (28-62) for the game and just 19% (4-19) from three point range.   Both teams finished with exactly 31 rebounds. 

The Lions will play their final regular season game on Saturday when the host Virginia State University at Manuel Rivero Hall.  Tipoff time is set for 4:00 p.m.
